Wonderful reading experience
I read this again as an adult during the Covid-19 pandemic when there were long days to fill in. It was absolutely wonderful and I'm so glad I was able to read these books as a youngster. I grew up loving the outdoors and scampering through mountains and bush and I still do thanks to Enid Blyton. I'm now 71. Parents do allow and encourage your children to experience these adventures too; they are also an education in how to look after yourselves in the outdoors and other useful lie skills.

Enid Blyton - queen of the children's adventure story
There is still nothing like Blyton's storytelling in the realm of children's literature. She completely captures the imagination of the reader until the last page. Her Adventure series were the first "chapter" (rather than "picture") books I ever read. That was when I was nine years old. I'm 65 now, and still infatuated.

This one is for children, but I enjoyed it too.
Philip conspired to help his school friends when they had no home to go to and no one to love them, and launched them and his sister into an adventure involving old mines and crooks. Loved the parrot, and other pets. Great characters. I enjoyed the read, and can't wait to share it with my granddaughters.

You are missing out if you do not read this.
I believe this is the best book Enid Blyton ever wrote! It is certainly the best of the series, and the rest of the series is pretty awesome too!

Grade school Indiana 1951
Excellent story. Brings Backmemories when our teacher read this story to our grade school class some 70 years ago.

The best of Enid Blyton series so far
Among all the E. Blyton books I have read to my kids so far, this one is the best. The prose is more mature and definitely resonates with kids 8+. I will be purchasing additional in this series which go by the titles The "Something" of Adventure.

Nostalgia
Was revisiting my childhood here with this book. Just as I remembered it from my early days. Very enjoyable. They don't write them like that anymore.

NO ILLUSTRATIONS!!! Daylight robbery!
This is a great amazing story - it's about 80 years old... but the original Stuart Tressillian illustrations have been removed! This is a terrible tragedy - the publisher should be placed in book-publisher's hell - they have deprived a whole generation of paperback buying poorer children. What will Amazon do to stop this!?

NOSTALGIA FEST.
Last read this fifty five years ago. The prose is appalling but the storytelling still carries some force. Stories encourage reading . Despite what Amazon says the text is not the original. Big Brother has applied his censor's pencil to Joe the handyman. If Blyton had been subjected to the same censorship at the time she wrote her books i wonder whether there would now be so many readers.

Sometimes nostalgia can be beneficial...
Bought this for my grandson aged 7. A little dated, but as I remember it through the somewhat blurred prism of time. Despite this inevitable feeling of a different era, it has a few universal truths that are often missing from more contemporary and I might say violent works. This book feels so innocent now, but in a good way that enhances childhood rather than creates a fear of the unknown and mistrust of everything. It is an adventure in the true sense of the word, building tension and excitement without resorting to the crude devices that rely on mayhem and destruction to achieve their ends. Dear old Enid knew her stuff! My grandson read it in a day, so it looks as if I will have to get the other seven in the series to keep him occupied for at least a week! Recommended for those aged relatives who remember what it was like to be a child in a gentler world than the one we currently have.

Excellent book - cover not as shown
I ordered this for our 6 year old who has been having the famous five books for bedtime and loving them. I had forgotten what a truly excellent series this is, and this story in particular. However it is maybe more suitable for 7 to 8 year olds so I am saving it for now and carrying on with the famous five books with him. My copy arrived quite quickly but I was disappointed that the cover is not as shown - it is a more modern cover with more modern children on it - some may prefer this, but I wanted the cover shown, which is a drawing of children rather than a photograph of what appear to be teenagers - my little boy would not relate to that cover as much as the drawing of children.

Delightful book
I haven't read an Enid Blyton book for decades and I'm probably far too old to be reading one now. But maybe there's a child in most of us who never grows up. A trip down memory lane this weekend has been really good fun.
