What a great name for seed-starting plugs. They work, too. I have experienced excellent results both for winter sprouting and summer seed starting outside. Leftover plastic containers from frozen foods and kitchen products make useful trays for the plugs in a sunny spot indoors or on the patio/balcony in the shade. Keep water in the tray so the plugs are always damp and you will soon see tiny green leaves emerging from the hole at the center of the plug. This assumes you actually got the seed into the center. I have had them sprout even from out on the edge. This type of plug is better, in my opinion, than the all-peat variety I made the mistake of trying because they were slightly cheaper. In this case, you get what you pay for. When your seedling reaches about two inches or you see roots growing out of the bottom of the plug, transplant into a four inch pot or directly into the soil (after hardening off if you have sprouted your seeds indoors). Or you can sink the plug into the soil of the four inch pot right from the beginning and keep the whole pot in a tray with an inch of water in the bottom, which will wick up and keep the soil and plug damp. Starting your own plants from seed is eminently satisfying and cost effective, too. It doesn’t get any better than that!

I have a hydroponic garden and I switch between these and rock wool. These are for superior and they don’t break down as quickly as the other ones I have tried.

I wanted to try something other than rockwool or straight soil for germinating seeds, so I order these. They come in a pouch, nice and moist. They're smaller than I expected but no problem. I used them in a tray, added seeds, added a little water and covered them. I checked back two days later and most were completely dry. Maybe this is just how they are, but as compared to Rockwool they dry quickly and thus require a little more attention. Not thrilled.

Excellent product and works well. Had to split them in half to put my terminated seeds in but held together well in propergator. Would recommend

Most media works for cuttings but with these I have loads more success, no idea why but time and trial and error have made these my go to for cuts every time.

seeds quoted 14-21 germination but i've got 24 seedlings after just 6 days - incredibly quick when used in a basic (non-heated) propogator. have just ordered 100 more.
