1001 Whiskies You Must Taste Before You Die [Roskrow, Dominic] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. 1001 Whiskies You Must Taste Before You Die Review: Great book if you love whisky - I'm a new whisky lover and recently joined a whisky club (people contribute a bottle and pay some dues). I bought this book to share with the other members and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Each article has a short story about the origin and nature of the whisky as well as some tasting notes. I love that I can read a little background information about the whiskies I'm trying out. Whiskies are a lot like people -- each have their own stories and some of them are fascinating to downright bizarre. And this book is not limited to only single-malt scotches either. You will find reviews for whisky and bourbons from around the globe. In my experience, I've really enjoyed branching out to regions not known for whisky production as they produce some great flavours. Keep in mind that this is not a ratings guide like Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2012 although it does have some basic tasting notes. You will also not find prices either (but it does have a link to the distillery's website for each whisky). So you may become excited about a particular whisky only to find that it is out of your price range. If you are new to whisky, then I suggest reading some random pages. You will learn a lot. If you like to have whisky tastings, buy this book and place it next to the bottles. Because talking about whisky is half the fun of drinking them! Review: Information - Told a lot about whiskey brands I've never heard before.

A must have
This is a great book and very fun to read. The writing is witty and alive and the tasting notes, while a bit over the top sometimes, are good guidance. Great coffee table book.

Enourmous collection of fine whiskies, bourbons, and ryes. Good luck getting to all of them!
Great gift for a fellow whisky lover. This whiskey "compendium" is not so much a guide of whiskies you should check out in your lifetime as the title suggests. Instead, it's more like a collection of every whisky that has every been created with detailed notes on each whisky's history, flavor, and drinking suggestions. The book includes multiple ages of many bottles, and special editions, many of which an average connoisseur will never get their hands on. Even so, it's cool to have an enourmous checklist, and be able to measure your notes with the "professionals.'"

Amazing Wealth of Information
Gave this book to a friend for Christmas but plan to go back and get one for myself. This is much more than a coffee table dust collector. The information and graphics are amazing. Would highly recommend for both the novice and the more experienced whiskey drinker.

Purchased as a gift for a Whiskey (or is it Whisky) Snob
How do you purchase a gift for someone who has everything Whiskey/Whisky? Well, if they love to read about Whiskey or is it Whisky? Anyway, the W-Snob will love this book. Bundle it with Peat Smoke and Spirit (another book) and they'll be in reader-Heaven!

A challenge
I am a recent convert to scotch - and really found this book both fun and informative - love the little details on the "expressions" - working my way through the list ;-) And it covers more than just Single Malts.

Wealth of information
My husband loves this book. It has inspired him to try different whiskies now and has given him knowledge of what he doesn't like to be in them or the barrel that may be used. Very helpful descriptions.

Most enjoyable and informative extension to your whiskey knowledge which was started by the monk John Cor hundreds of years ago

I bought the hard cover book and was pleasantly surprised with Amazon's free delivery service. I bought the book on Friday and it was delivered on Tuesday. The book is a must for every whisky lover. The brief write-up on each distillery is very interesting and informative. I'm tagging the pages as I get to sample the whiskies and I even give the whiskies my own rating - lot's of fun. The book is proudly displayed on the top shelf of my bar next to the good whiskies.

This book is massive! Not simply because of the size and weight which result from the high quality paper but because of its content. It covers whiskies from around the world in a huge amount of detail and it doesn't concentrate on malts, plenty of premium blends are included too. This is a book you can get lost in for hours. There is plenty of historical information on each distillery as well as notes on their production methods, equipment and barrels used for maturation. The reviews are entertaining and informative and will appeal to novices and aficionados. Tasting notes are thankfully brief but adequate. There is just enough information to allow us to gain an impression of the whisky's style. (I remain sceptical of such descriptions because they are highly subjective and no two tasters ever seem to find the same flavours in the same whisky. The vast majority of us are not blessed with the ultra sensitive noses and tongues of professional tasters and I can honestly say that I have never detected a hint of pineapple in any whisky which I have sampled). It is unlikely that any of us will taste 10% of the whiskies described in this book but that is of no consequence. It remains a fascinating and well researched work which is a pleasure to read.
