Folks need to use common sense!
Looks like folks need to use some common sense with this product. First this is used to let you know when soil is dry. If you just sit it in the top of the soil you will know when the soil is totally dried out and things are almost to late at that point. You put this at least a half inch into the soil. As it turns lighter blue you need to water. Don't wait till it turns completely white. Don't water directly on the stone or it will get more moisture then the dirt. Just use some common sense and you this product will work fine for smaller containers, such as six or seven inches. In larger containers you will need to use multiple mosture rocks. Frankly, it is just that simple!

Not too impressed
I just got these from the mailman ten minutes ago. Open the package & just from handling them the white coating that is over the dark blue plastic is bubbling up & peeling off. It's literally like a cheap, poorly prepped coat of spray paint that is peeling off! Not too impressed thus far especially at $4 each for these plastic rocks! I've placed them in the soil & watered then real good & they turned dark blue immediately. We'll see how they do as the soil dries out here in the next few days & I'll update my review as necessary. Thanks & good luck! Jim UPDATE I've had these for a couple weeks now & let me say this, they,re junk! Especially at this price! If you wait until the blue stone turns white to water your plant you have probably just killed it! I re-potted a couple plants that I had put the wrox in & I forgot to put them back in after I was finished & they laid on my bench for a complete week before they ever turned white! Just feel the soil to tell when to water. Most plants are good to let the top inch or so of soil completely dry out before watering again. Pay attention to your plants & you can tell by looking at the soil if they need water. If you absolutely need a device to help you tell when to water your plants just get a regular moisture meter but the best & safest method is to just use your finger & feel the soil. Good luck with your plants! Jim

does not work
The instructions are not very clear as to how to use the product. Putting directly on top of the soil...it changes color while the soil is still moist a half inch down....if you bury it..no good either. very disappointing as I got several sets

cool Idea, but within 3 days of use
cool Idea, but within 3 days of use, they had all developed a growing mark on them like they were being burned, now one of them is completely brown and two more are half and half. I have five of the stones and all the ones that had contact with water turned colors. and it isn't the environment because three are at my office and two are in my home. the three at the office are watered with tap water, but the ones at home are watered with purified and filtered water.

Works well as a visual reminder to water.
I find these helpful as a visual reminder to water my finicky plants. You must bury them I the soil so only the top shows otherwise they are useless and ensure you water over top of it so it turns dark blue. If you do this they are effective.
