It doesn't bode well for the construction of this thing that it did that.The Smell when you first get it is pretty bad. But, just put some water in it with 1/2 - a cup of white vinegar in it. Swish it around, let it sit for even just 10mins. Then open the bite valve and let some water rinse through the hose. Then empty the bag and rinse like 4 times. (or more)Smell is gone.Also, I highly recommend keeping all hydration bladders in the freezer. Rinse with vinegar water when you're done using it.. and let it run through the hose. Wash the outside of the bag and hose.
