StarTech 2 Port SATA to eSATA Slot Plate Bracket (ESATAPLATE2)

I'm using this with an ASUS TUF GAMING Z590 PLUS Wi-Fi motherboard, and so far, it has worked exactly as expected. Having two eSATA ports is nice, especially if you need to use a SATA based optical drive on a PC which does not have any 5.25 inch bays. There are several other reasons one may want to use eSATA. USB to SATA adapters do NOT support S.M.A.R.T or TRIM, both of which will work via eSATA. Another instance where using eSATA might be useful, is if your PC only has a single USB controller (which is common for most Intel motherboards). USB power can be a bit finicky, and the more USB devices you attach to a single controller, the higher the likelyhood of running in to some random USB power issue that can take your entire controller offline. TL;DR If you find yourself needing to connect multiple SATA devices to your PC externally, this is an excellent approach if you are looking to have options that don't involve USB to SATA adapters.

I had an old external drive dock that I wanted to use. The cable works fine but I took one star off because the cables should be at leased 2 inches longer.

High quality bracket and connectors. The SATA cables are a bit short and just barely made it to the SATA ports on an ASUS motherboard. On an ASUS board, the SATA ports are located farthest from the back of the desktop case which is worst case. Even with that, the cables were still long enough to just reach the port connectors, so this worked out well. I've attached a 6 foot ESATA cable to the computer and been able to run an external CD/DVD drive at top speed with no problems or hickups. Works great. BobM

Only logical way to make a connection to eSata drives. Addon cards don't work well and fail miserably. You can extend the cables just enough to get into the motherboard ports, although it may not fit some boards that are spaced farther away from PCIE slots. You can do diagnostics, file transfer, and determine disk health easier with this card. USB seems inherently unreliable for HD for some reason. USB generally works for solid state better. However, the closer you get to the CPU, the faster your storage will be so m.2 is the future or even integrated drives that come permanently attached.

This is a good product. The only reason I give it four stars is the cables should have been a bit longer. Cases and motherboards are big and video cards are humungous these days so the company should have accounted for that and made the cables long enough to reach to anywhere on a big motherboard over or around a huge video card. Otherwise this product worked great.

Using in a home TrueNAS build with old LaCie ESATA HDD enclosures for offline/offsite backups of SSD and SAS storage. Works great to extend SATA for my needs, replicating nightly/ad-hoc for backups and offline storage. Yes, ESATA is old technology, but it is stable. And works. Particularly in my scenario for offline backups with legacy HDDs.

A very good idea.. it gives you E Sata out the back of the computer. It mounts to the cards opening, and plugs directly into the board. Because it does that instead of going through a PCI Card, you can load Microsoft in a dock outside the Computer. The noise of the hard drive is high though and so this dock is inside and quieter, and sold here. KingWin KF-1000-BK Single bay Internal SATA Tray - Less Hot Swap Rack Key Lock I use three hard drives. One for play, one for going to the bank only, and one for storage. Works well for me. You can have a hard drive for each member of the family.

Cable is NOT long enough to fit 2008 Mac Pro. I had to buy an additional extender to kludge the ports.

Simple to set up, and it gives me two eSATA ports. What I wanted and what I got! SATA ports are more useful in accessing image backup & files than USB (as I found out!). Some programs just can't see USB flash drives, nor a USB connected HDD.

Good product which performs as described. What would make it a 5-star product? *Rounded black cables which are sleeved together for the middle 2/3rds of cable length (so only separating at each other) *Longer cable length, another 25-50mm would have given me better cabling routing options

Gute Qualität, funktioniert wie erwartet. Kabel sind nicht lang, das ist bei meinem PC aber kein Problem und hält den Signalweg kurz.

C'est adaptateur nous a permis de faire fonctionner une solution de backup serveur externe eSata, qui ne fonctionnait pas via une carte SAS d'origine avec un câble SAS-4 eSata. Nous avons plugé c'est adpatateur directement sur un port SATA disponible sur la carte mère et le tour était joué. Donnant de fait une solution backup externe à bas prix (puisque plus de carte PCI-e) et performante, vu le temps de lecture et d'écriture que nous donne l'interface eSata.

Cumple su cometido, con calidad suficiente y queda montado sin mayor problema. No se puede decir más sobre el producto.
