Awesome tool for making good choices and positive reinforcement, and great company!
What an awesome tool for making good choices and positive reinforcement! The Goodtimer is actually a "good choice timer", not in the sense of someone is bad/good. The Goodtimer has been a game changer for our 9 year old son who has Autism. He loves it and rushes to turn it on as soon as he wakes up every day. It has helped him regulate some big emotions and truly work out making better choices. It has been a fun interactive tool that he actually likes (similar to a token board but cooler). We explain to our son that we have to flip the timer over (pause it) to talk about making better choices especially regarding our reactions to small/medium/big problems. We do not say "you are bad or good"; we use good or poor choices. We use it to reinforce some family rules like summer reading, school tasks, chores, interrupting politely, calm transitions, following directions and listening, etc. But our biggest struggle is emotional regulation on even the littlest of snags in daily life so we have used this to help him work on calming down and finding other options for dealing with big emotions. Also included with the Goodtimer is a book about the good timer, a family rules chart, a set of fillable vouchers for earned token values/items and higher denomination stickers to change the value of some tokens. The website also has printable pdfs of the rules and vouchers as well as some fun printable activities. I printed a bunch of the blank vouchers, cut them out and laminated them. We put the vouchers and excess tokens in the "bank", a little craft box with a slit that we made. The Goodtimer has 10 different levels starting at level 1 which is 3 hours= 1 token. Level 10 is 12 hours= 1 token (for older kids). I believe it adds an hour as you go up a level. You can also adjust the volume and brightness and use it plugged in or unplugged as it is rechargeable. A testament to the Goodtimer company: We eventually had to order a second set of tokens from the Goodtimer website because our son was doing so great and earning so many tokens! Well, our order was shipped with tracking pretty quick but it never moved in the postal system. I reached out to the Goodtimer people about it and they said they believed it had gotten lost in the postal system somewhere. They immediately sent a replacement order that was here within days! Included in the package though was a very kind handwritten note addressed to us and a Starbucks gift card! We truly appreciated the kindness, personal touch and the way the company made it right. Very thoughtful! Well, our original order must have been found and was just delivered. So now we are trying to find out how to pay the company for it as well so as not to short them. We’ve recommended the Goodtimer to everyone in a few special needs groups as well. The Goodtimer is worth every penny!

Great Incentive
This product has done wonders for my 4 year old, he's not only learning that he is accountable for his behavior, but he's also learning the value of chores and helping around the house. On another note: when the timer's power gets too low there are some signs you should look for. 1) the buttons stop working 2) the timer function stops working 3) to turn it off you will have to use the factory reset button 4) when you plug it in the charging tone will continue to play for a half an hour until the battery is charged enough to turn the tone off I learned this the hard way and almost returned the whole thing because I thought I had a faulty product. Thankfully I emailed the company about my problems and they gave me the pointers I listed above. Also, this product doesn't come with a user's manual that breaks down all the functions and the charging cues. To figure out what the different levels on the timer were, I had to go to their faqs page on their website. So be prepared to visit the website for any questions. The website also offers ideas for rewards and house rules, as well as offers suggestions for addressing problematic behavior and other things of the like. I found it very helpful. I just wish the product came with an insert or something that directed you to their website.

Game-Changer
I am so happy. I’m on my 7 month of pregnancy, quarantined with a very strong-willed 3 year old. I thought I was going to lose my mind! Nothing was working! Today is the second day and it’s like I have an entirely different child. Yesterday he didn’t quite understand at first but once he got his first token it was like something clicked. Today he’s been great. All we have to do is start to flip the timer and his bad behavior completely stops! It’s also been our most successful potty training day! I only did 4 stars because there’s a few things I’d change. I wish you could change the amount of hours they earn a token. I would have liked maybe a 4 or 6 hour option. It was a simple fix for us. Since he’s potty training we offer a token if he uses the potty. The other thing is sometimes the good timer starts back up while still being flipped upside down. Other than that, we’re very happy!

Not sure it was worth the price
I love the idea and it has been a fun way to create good behavior in my 3yo - he loves earning tokens; it creates a good opportunity to review his behavior when he does something naughty and he gets excited to correct and turn it back over; and the story book is really cute. My biggest complaint is the durability - given it’s for children and the chances it will fall from time to time, I have already experienced glitches in turning it on (it just turns on and then off over and over). I turn it off for a few days and that seems to help, but the durability could be better. Given it was $60+ and the fact I’ve only had it a month, it’s just kind of a bummer.

Parents of Strong-Willed Children REJOICE!
We’ve owned a goodtimer for less than a week, but it’s making a big difference! We’ve done positive reinforcements, sticker charts, and token systems in the past, but inevitably these systems lost their luster and we lost our consistency. That’s what we are loving about goodtimer- we don’t have to remember to always check the clock, always reward, always control it. With good rewards (our 4 year old wants to learn to play a Mario game), he’s basically running the system on his own, with some guidance from us when a rule is broken. It allows a “oops I broke a rule and need to apologize” to be just that instead of a huge drawn-out ordeal as it’s been in the past. The story book that comes along is fantastic and was a great launching point. The program is customizable to your child’s needs. I’m sure we will have to make adjustments to our rewards as we keep up with it, but so far, we are thrilled!

Waste of money for our family.
After reading all of the positive reviews I thought I would give this gadget a try with my 5 year old and 8 year old. I thought I could use it for both kids but discovered it is best if each child had their own. Both kids immediately started fighting over who got the good timer. I wasn’t about to shell out another $80 for a second one, so I decided we would try using it with our 5 year old first- since he was the most challenging anyway. We read through the book first and didn’t quite understand the necessary steps for programming levels. My 5 year old started getting impatient and proceeded to push all the buttons, insert and pull out tokens, all while trying to talk to the good timer like it was an Amazon echo device. He’s more interested in hearing the sounds and seeing the lights come on that actually earning tokens. Apparently, the good timer just gives out free tokens randomly throughout the day- so my 5 year thought he was earning tokens. He was not. In fact, the good timer spent the majority of the time flipped over. This device also seems to make noise randomly throughout the day and into the evening so I wonder if the device is defective. We’ve only had it for about a week but but I have zero confidence in this working for our family. I would return it in a heartbeat but my son has already misplaced/hidden the book many of the tokens. This was a complete waste of money.

DEFECTIVE... with a happy ending!
The idea is brilliant. We have replaced the timer and every model we have received stops working after a week, which turns into nothing but a puddle of tears. Talk about a letdown for medically fragile kids. +EDITED REVIEW+ Oh my goodness! I take it back! Not only did this company take accountability, hear my distress, and take total ownership... they utilized criticism to release better and stronger firmware, and improved a brilliant concept. They also offered to gift me a timer in exchange for the heartache! If you're a fan of feel good stories and companies with transparent ownership, this is the device for you. I have had so many things break and left so many reviews... never have I ever been treated like a member of the team, solving the problems and, in essence... teaching the good timer! Whooda thunk I'd get to play, too? Great company and ownership. AND IT WORKS. Get your kid involved, make posters like I did... this little timer will be your favorite addition to the house. I'll be back, and supporting. 5/5 for product... 10/10 for humanity.

Great concept. Needs some minor tweaking for perfection.
I love the concept, however, my 4 year old loses motivation and doesn't quite understand that she is losing time when she only earns a token every 8 hours. This is the only timer I've seen like this and the concept is great. To make the timer more visual and easier for a child to understand, I would highly suggest the option of much shorter increments (as short as 5 minutes for timed activities). A phone app would be even better to keep track of behavior and set the time component. As for right now, I give a token for every bar of light. I do like that you can turn the sound off. I am still giving this product 5 stars because I've witnessed significant improvement in my child's behavior:) getting dressed, going to bed, eating dinner etc. Kudos for a great concept! I would recommend this device for anyone with a strong willed child; )
