Accurate Spinning Top, Vintage Totem Zinc Alloy Silver Toy Gift

I bought this because I just recently watched the movie Inception. Btw, great movie. Anyway, it's shinier and nicer looking in person. Spun correctly, it spins for quite good time. I'm using it on a convex glass I purchased for this purpose. When centered and spinning perfectly, it almost looks like it's in suspended animation. Very happy with this product. It came in a nice round tin with an extra gift. In my case, it was a single red dice. The machining could be a tad better though. Has little spots around the rim that are a little sharp. I tried to sand them, but realized the inner color of the top was now showing. For the price, I can't complain though. I do tend to expect perfection, when good enough should suffice, however.

"Oh, it's not a perpetual motion machine ... 1 star!" Come on people, it's a child's top. This is a cute little top and its spin duration will depend on the surface. I can easily get 1:45 minutes and sometimes 2:00. (I'm running on my kitchen granite counter top). People state it's fragile ... probably. It's probably cast pewter and then just polished up. The only negative thing I have to say is the shaft is a bit small for my chunky fingers. You can spend a lot more money on a titanium one, but in the end ... it's still just a top. :-)

Compared to other near identical tops seen in the marketplace, this is a great value for the money. It spins a long time with little effort. The machining of the top is what you would expect. Very smooth. It's not shiny, but does have a nice finish. The packaging makes it nice for a gift, but who would give one of these as a gift? Really? I would have rather it come in a plastic bag and knock a buck or two off the price. Even though I find this top a great buy compared to similar products, the whole 'spin forever' top fad is way overpriced. Saying that, I'd recommend this top over any of the others.

Really fun toy! For those who've seen the movie, the first time you spin you may think you're in a dream! If spun well, you can get about a min and a half of spinning. My record is 2min and 15 seconds. The only complaint I have is that it's only 1 inch tall when I expected it to be a little bit bigger. Also the spinner gets old after about a week but its still a really cool trinket to mess with every so often. I think it may be a little over-priced but this is made up for since its the same model as in the movie.

I bought this because the overall score was good, and it came in a nice tin. The price was cheap, and thus I'm not surprised at the product quality. The spinning top is machined decent enough, though has a couple of minor imperfections that I can deal with (a slight blemish, and a slight scuff). It doesn't spin that long....I cant seem to get it longer than 25 seconds. And I believe the balance/eveness of the top may have something to do with it. In other words, I'm not sure that the top was machined evenly all around. Either that or I am a terrible spinner. Also, my top did not have "INCEPTION" etched on the bottom like some others have stated. The die is pretty cheap, and the kind I expect that comes in a pack of party favors at the dollar store. Its super cheap looking, and feeling, and is not loaded. Despite what other reviews have said, the die I got had no weight at all. All in all, I would go with a different product next time. A bit disappointed with this.

Ok so to all the bad reviews who say it "doesn't keep spinning", yea it doesn't because YOU suck at it! Lol not everyone wakes up knowing how to spin a top and it doesn't spin itself. So obviously you have to practice it. ALOT. Ha what Inception didn't say is that there's a bit of a learning curve to getting it right. If you try to spin it too hard, or don't put the right torque on it - it'll only spin for a few seconds, or most likely may not really spin at all. Once you get a feel for the 'flick' you need to get it going, you can build from there. Just know, it DOES work. And it DOES take practice to learn how to do well (like anyyyyything else in this world). Super fun gift for adults who know the movie Inception (this is a great secret santa office item), and for inquisitive kids who love a challenge.

What a seriously disappointing product!!! Such a great idea that could have been magnificent if this had actually been made well and usable ... but unfortunately it is neither made well and can't be used due to the tops slipperiness and poor balance that is so obvious at first glance. I'm really let down by this purchase and will never buy ANYTHING from this vendor ever again.

This top works pretty well. At $2.50 and no shipping, I was not sure how good it could be. I don't understand how anyone can make a profit off it. I assume these were made for the movie and never sold, so someone else bought them for pennies on the dollar. Outside of that, it seems unlikely you can ship these from China at that price and make money. The top spins very well. With a reasonably good twist it will spin for about 55-60 seconds before it starts to wobbles. Overall with the end wobbles, it spins for about 80 seconds. I saw at least one top out there for $45 and I would be curious how much better it could be. The shipping time was about 35 days as it came from China. The top was in good condition with no marks. On the bottom it has the words inception engraved it in. The case is a small aluminum (i guess) box and it comes with a dice for whatever reason. That is a basic plastic die that is found in any cheap game. I am not even sure why I wrote a review of this item, but I still find it funny that this can ship from China as a one item purchase for $2.50 and be as good or better than advertised. I also find it funny that tops are also selling for $50 on-line. Overall I would buy this again if I ever find I have a need for another top. However one top in my life is probably enough.

Mine didn't spin for long on this one... but it's good quality.
