It’s clear that the approach is to buy the rights for some stories from somewhere (a bright middle-schooler might have written some of them), hire people to translate them into different languages, then slap on some quiz questions and a vocabulary list compiled more or less at random, with no feeling for what a foreign reader would find difficult.
