NOW Solutions, European Clay Powder, Pure Powder for a Detox Facial Cleansing Mask, 6-Ounce

To preface, I have extremely sensitive skin and can use very few products, including the vast majority of prepackaged clay masks. I have been using DIY clay masks off and on for 20 years. I also attended esthetician training, so I'm coming from a background with a bit of knowledge on skincare. My skin is very oily and a bit acne-prone, and prone to hyperpigmentation. European green clay is also called French green clay and is one of the safest clays for sensitive skin. I do a few things to make this mask effective and also gentle. I pour a small amount of the powder into a container and add a few drops of grapeseed oil, a few drops of white vinegar, and then gradually mix in a tiny bit of water at a time until it is a slightly thin consistency. I discovered many years ago that even just a few drops of vinegar helps make a diy clay mask smooth and silky, and helps it mix eventually. It's also good for the skin, but I do not use much at all due to my sensitive skin. I apply a thin layer, then add a second thin layer over sparse areas so that the mask is mostly opaque. I do not let it dry completely, I have noticed with clay masks if they dry completely then I tend to get redness. I wait a few minutes and let it get mostly dry then gently remove with a warm wet wash cloth, no harsh rubbing. Then I moisturize with a good face cream and a bit of non-comedogenic oil. I do not use any other products immediately after, and do not use any active ingredients that day. The effects of a good clay mask are worth skipping actives for a day. This is a great clay mask product, and I trust the NOW brand. NOW does thorough testing of all their products, so I know when I purchase from them that I am getting a pure, safe product. This clay powder is very fine and produces a soft, silky mask when prepared. If you get occasional acne like I do you can also spot-treat pimples and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (pigmentation left after a pimple heals.) I am very careful with my exfoliation, for exfoliation I only use clay masks and gentle chemical exfoliants. This product helps keep my skin smooth, soft, and bright. It also helps keep sebaceous filaments to a minimum. I highly suggest this product, just be mindful of how you use it (and any product) if you have sensitive skin.

I purchased this to use as a face mask. For a long time, I used bentonite clay. However, I find it to be too drying and my skin is just way too sensitive for bentonite. After reading tons of reviews on all the best clays, I settled on this one. I DEFINITELY prefer it over bentonite. It doesn't pull stuff out as well as benny clay, but it's soooo much gentler on my skin. It still does work to clear pores, but it is a slightly slower process compared to bentonite. The BEST feature about this, though, is that you don't need to mix it with apple cider vinegar. I don't mind mixing benny clay and ACV, but it's so much more convenient to be able to mix this with water. It forms a great paste. I use equal parts clay and water (sometimes more water is necessary). I only use about a half-tablespoon, as I don't think this mask needs to be super thick on your face to get the job done. Apply all over or in troubled areas, wait for upwards of 45 mins (I like it to be VERY dry before taking it off, although that's not everyone's preference and drying time depends on the thickness/wetness of the mix), and then rinse off. Your face will be red where the mask was, but that's totally fine. However, if you experience itching, swelling, or discomfort after removal, there may be an issue and you should stop using. Love this stuff! I like doing a mask weekly and it exfoliates and cleans my skin really well!

I have combination skin and I use a clay mask twice a week to help with oil control and to do a deep clean. Overall, this is a good clay mask, an option to try if you like to make your own mask. Preparation: I find that 1 tablespoon clay and a tablespoon water (as instructed by the packaging) yields they a very thick mask (see picture). I prefer to use less than a tablespoon of clay with more than a tablespoon of water to get the right consistency and quantity for me, The clay mixes easily with water. Application: This clay is slippery and very tricky; if you get a too thick consistency it's very hard to spread on the face, if it's a little too watery you get an uneven application. Wear: The clay doesn't really dry out completely (even if I only use just water) so it's not uncomfortable while it's on the face. It also doesn't leave dust all over the house if I move around while wearing it. Cleaning: Some clay masks are very hard to remove, but this one just glides of the face. But I always remove clay masks in the shower. Dryness: After & remove it my skin is not left dessert dry, like some clay mask do. But for very dry skin it's still worth mixing it with an face oil. Cleaning: In terms of removing impurities, I would say it only removes 80% of impurities. It also dries out some pimples. Since it yields a thick but somewhat slippery consistency, I think it would also be great for wraps.

I absolutely love this powdered clay! The powder has no scent, it's all natural, and it's easy to use. Unlike other clay masks, this works best when you add equal portions of water and powder. You may want to use 1.5 tablespoons if you want to get a thicker consistency to the mask; this will also reduce cracking. After 10-15min on your face, the mask will gently tug at your skin as it dries -- you may also feel itchiness in areas where the mask is cracking (so try to make a mask with a thicker consistency). The clay washes off pretty easily, I used a facial sponge to help me but it definitely was not needed. This product is probably best for individuals with oily and/or rough skin. It definitely exfoliates your skin, smooths over rough patches and gives you a brighter appearance. I was quite shocked at how soft and bright my face looked after using this mask. You definitely should use a good moisturizer or hydrating toner after using this (just to bring back balance to your skin).

This clay is very high quality and I will be purchasing it again. I used this for a clay mask as well as an internal detox with clay water and it works very well. My face got fery red but this is due to the increased blood flow to my face. Make sure you have a good facial moisturizer to use after you remove the clay mask because it really dries everything out. I cannot reccommend this to anyone else for internal use simply because everyone needs to do his or her own research, but it worked well for me. The taste is not bad and the texture is very fine. I'll be buying this product again.

Really like this mask. I bought the sensitive skin version (even better!). Skin may be a little red after rinsing but fades within 10 mins. Great for spot treatments too.

This is definitely not a weak mask, or for those with sensitive skin. My skin is fairly sensitive, and I couldn't leave it on until it fully dried. It became very itchy and burned a bit. Right after i washed it off my face became bright red! Looks like I have a splotchy sunburn. However, it has calmed down a little bit. I have a breakout on my forehead and they have flattened out a little bit. My skin feels much smoother, but a tad dry. I'll probably have to add more water or an essential oil next time. Overall, pretty good. Might not use the entire container, but ok while I have it.

I use this to make handmade facial masks - roughly equal thirds colloidal oatmeal, clay, and honey, with water added to make a paste. I chose this because of the brand, as well as the plastic jar package which makes it easy to store in the bathroom, keep dry, and easily use when needed. It meets all these needs well. The NOW brand has never let me down.

Excelente, viene una cantidad considerable y sirve para muchas mascarillas, eso sí si exageras en producto puedes sentir una ligera sensación de hormigueo y enrojecimiento, es cuestión de no poner demasiada cantidad a tu mezcla.

I didn't use it that much...but was ok, when I was applying it I was able to see differences.
