Let me say a couple things... I've been striping parking lots and streets full time, (28) years. My book is listed here, on Amazon. I have sprayed "temporary" striping. ( Mostly streets. ) Some on grass for extra event parking. Some on gravel. First, yes, if someone "peels out", or worse, performs a "donut", all is lost. You'll have yellow or white pebbles everywhere. And, no semblance to numbers. To answer your question, I hope the numbers aren't needed for too long. I hope the surface is as flat as it can be. ( Small pebbles may be easier to spray over then larger, golf ball sized...? ) Personally, I'd need more info and / or try to help differently, unless this is the final decision and all other options have been explored. That said...I'd ask how long do the numbers need to be present ? I'd then decide how many stalls need to be numbered. Maybe suggest signage. Or, signage every so often. ( Every (10) stalls...? ) I don't know the budget or need. Next...the paint I use is Sherwin WIlliams Traffic sprayed via an airless sprayer. ( Certain pressure. Certain tip. No biggee. ) Again, I don't know enough about the job to be definitive but spray cans sound like a difficult way to achieve the goal. One more little oddity...if the stencil is flat on the ( Pavement ) and you spray straight down, you'll get a nice result. If however, there are voids where the ( gravel ) will not allow the stencil to lay flat...AND...your painter sprays at an angle, paint get get under the stencil and produce a bit of a fuzzy edge / product. You and I will certainly know that is a number and all is well. But, if it lays flat and we all spray straight down, we'll get the best product. I hope this helps. I hope I helped some. Let me know. I’m looking for 1inch** A: Hello Friend Thank you for the email. Let me say this...the actual width of the letter is the 8" dimension. I'm thinking you need to know, what we call; " Brush Stroke". ( What size / width paint brush would you need to hand paint these"? ) That dimension varies slightly. The curvatures widen out a smidgen. The best answer is 2". Next...whenever anyone asks this type question and needs a certain dimension...I'm betting you're trying to match an existing stencil that's already sprayed. Friend, don't buy mine. Although a wider Brush Stroke sounds like it would "cover" your existing numbers, it won't. Other portions of the existing numbers will remain uncovered and you'll end up with "Double Vision" and simply not be happy with the work. The only way to match is to buy from that particular manufacturer. I also stripe parking lots. ( 28 years. ) We always "Grey Out" the old stencil, nicely, then re spray with ours. And, that goes for every stencil: Handicaps are never the same, 12" NO PARKING, VISITOR, STOP...etc. It's just part of the industry. All MFGs have their own font, design, etc. I hope I helped some. They are thick flexible plastic, excess paint flakes right off with a slight bend of the stencil. I have used them 6 times so far and they are still perfect. Cardboard or paper stencils are useless after the first use. These are 12" and sturdy, standing up to multiple paintings. I use them on parking lots with stripping paint (handheld) and get great results. Like I said before, buy once and cry once.
