Smooth, nice woodworking but I’m sorry I bought the stained and varnished set. I’m just old fashioned and like wooden spoons that age with use. However, these do wash up nicely because nothing sticks to the varnish. They look pretty on my counter in a holder. I use the ladle often. It is a good size and shape but the bowl portion is a little thicker than I prefer - but then, I’m used to a metal ladle.
