Good Organization, Poor Content
The book was a required study material in my Investment Science course at U - graduate school. While organization of material seems reasonable for new to finance world, the content lack few critical (for learning and understanding) components:1. Inconsistent notation: sometimes even within adjacent pages.2. Many proofs of theorems lack rigor.3. On one occasion - duration explicit formula is wrong - does not look like a typo.4. Too many typos at critical places - have a finance dictionary handy while reading it.5. Some examples assume the reader is in kindergarden, and painfully go through unnecessary (simple algebra) steps, while other omit critical steps, or sometimes worse give a hand-waiving argument. I also took the time to reproduce (in excel, R, Matlab) some of the numerical examples in the first 5-6 chapters, and the accuracy (numerical) of the answers are off - not sure what sort of computing software was used to produce the examples, but good cooking!(1) star - seen much better quality finance/investment texts.

Excelent book! Great clarity and depth in the subject
I attended his courses at Stanford and indeed he's an eminence in the subject, and all his wisdom has been printed in this excellent book. This book provides you with the required tools to fully understand the theory and practical methods for valuation. A plus is the introduction of Real Option valuation concept. It's adequate for advanced undergraduates or mainly for graduate studies in preparation for deeper courses.

but as textbooks go it wasn't terrible.
Decent book. I'm not so sure I'd buy it if it wasn't required, but as textbooks go it wasn't terrible.

Luenberger has made Investment Science easy
If you have ever wanted to know more about investments and the science and formulations behind the practice, this is a well written and easy to understand book that gives you a good understanding of the financial market. The chapters are well organized and the practice examples help bring the concepts together as the book progresses.

Great text to accompany a course I did in Financial Engineering.
Great text to accompany a course I did in Financial Engineering as I wanted to teach myself portfolio theory. Not exactly an easy read, but it's not written to be. Your maths needs to be pretty good !

A must-read for Data Scientists planning to move into financial modelling
The topic of investment management is vast and every B-School covers this topic over several courses. However, if you have prior strength in statistical modelling and data science and are looking to develop an understanding of areas such as portfolio optimization & predictive modelling of stock prices, this book is a must-read. The author covers topics from a mathematical perspective without an in-depth look at formulae and theorem. Consequently, if one wants to build algorithms then this book serves as preamble to advanced research publications. On the other hand, if one wants to understand how existing algorithms work at a generic level, then this book is complete in itself

Pathetic text with typos
Pathetic text with typos, inconsistency in notations, explanations and it's a hell lot of time-consuming if you're trying to develop an understanding. I don't understand why this even form part of the syllabus at my university!
