## Description

The SPIKE Ferrofluid Display is a mesmerizing interactive kinetic sculpture containing a paramagnetic liquid called ferrofluid. It was originally created by NASA as a prototype rocket fuel, unique in that it could be fed into rocket engines using magnets in zero gravity. It becomes highly magnetized in the presence of a magnetic field and forms large spikes and other organic shapes. We created the SPIKE to showcase this amazing liquid in a mesmerizing blend of art and science. It contains 7ml of high quality ferrofluid (synthesized by Ferrotec) enclosed in a beautiful aerospace grade anodized aluminum and lab quality glass enclosure. It includes an extremely powerful handheld magnet (made from N52 Neodymium rare earth magnets) that you use to interact with it.

After much research MTR Designs offered some of the coolest displays available. My displays arrived quickly. I did have a small issue, which Matt in customer service resolved RIGHT AWAY! Thanks MTR. Can't wait to hand out the Christmas gifts spreading the obsession.

Upon receipt, the first surprise when opening the box is how small it is (looks much bigger in its advertising). The unit is basically an upside down mini mason jar filled with discolored oil and the ferrous material. The magnet provided is suitably strong but the concave top (bottom) of the mason jar where you can choose to store the magnet is also the most important part of the entire glass dome for attracting the ferrous material to the top and playing around with it. Yes the sides too but the top is where its fun. Summary: Does what its supposed to but the implementation could have been better.

Recently learned / stumbled upon ferrofluid magnetic liquid. Immediately became obsessed. This stuff is AWESOME! After much research MTR Designs offered some of the coolest displays available. My displays arrived quickly. I did have a small issue, which Matt in customer service resolved RIGHT AWAY! Thanks MTR. Can't wait to hand out the Christmas gifts spreading the obsession.
