Vita Nuova is very much a love story, or maybe unrequited love story that supposedly was the experience of Dante himself. Probably what makes this small book so enjoyable is the excellent translation, it's very readable. Of course the reader has to rely on the person doing the translation and trust that what he tells the reader is in fact the words of Dante. Assuming this, the translation is very enjoyable in a bitter sweet kind of way. I would recommend reading the translators notes before starting, as Mark Musa is not only an expert at translation but the intricacies and depth of Dante's work. This is a great piece of literature- it tackles love, death, and the life of an artist. I would recommend it to absolutely anyone!

Excellent translation

Great translation of a great piece of literature

Great Vita Nuova translation.
This is the best translation by far, the quality of the text is exactly as described. The book is perfect for those that are new to reading Dante, the introduction sets the reader up for success in understanding the text. You will definitely enjoy the translations and I am glad to have replaced my worn out copy!

I highly recommend it. From a literature standpoint
I read this in my Dante class, where our emphasis was on his Divine Comedy. This book came in handy for understanding Beatrice in Paradiso. If you are planning to read the Divine Comedy, I highly recommend it. From a literature standpoint, I recommend it to those who enjoy poetry and gradual, narrated character development. I would not have chosen this book for pleasure, yet despite it being an assignment, I ultimately enjoyed it.

Beautiful! Dante is a master of introspection and the longing of the human heart for love, God, and the human destiny! A must read for everyone especially if you want to dig deeper into the meaning of love, loss, and the overall meaning of it.
