Best pump, especially for price paid.
This is our third year (installed summer 2018) having an intex 15โx4โ above ground pool. We used chlorine and the pump that came with the pool the first year. Changing the filters and using chlorine was not blowing my skirt up. The filters had to be replaced every two weeks minimum, and the chemicals were somewhat challenging to keep balanced. We decided last year to upgrade to a salt water system. I didnโt look at a sand filter due to cost. We bought an upgrade summer 2019 salt water pump, which used the same disposable filters. The pump was adequate, but we still had to skim the water with a net to get out the layer of bugs and bio matter from the trees for about 10-15 minutes before swimming each and every day. To be fair, there are three trees that contribute to the mess. We got the pool ready this year (2020), but the pump would not operate. We knew we had to buy a new one. I do quite a bit of research on most products I purchase, especially a bigger purchase such as this pump. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of saltwater pumps on the market whether its Amazon, Academy, or our local pool suppliers (Nashville). I saw that this pump had adequate reviews but not stellar. I also know that items like this usually receive a few poor reviews because there are too many user variables for product performance consistency. I can say for us, this pump performance exceeds our expectations. My husband installed it April 27, 2020, and said it was somewhat difficult. I can attest to the amount of time it took-approx 1 1/2-2 hours. We had multiple sized connectors due to previously purchasing a second pump, so that was not an issue for us. The power of this pump is noticeably stronger than the previous two pumps we had. See photos. Kind of like a hot tub if youโre up close. This has not been an issue even for our 10m old in her float. The best aspects of this pump are that the water stays much cleaner, no need to skim before each and every swim, no disposable filters, backwashing the sand is a breeze. You can actually see the funk flush out of the sand! Stop backwash when water runs clear. Bam, youโre done. Always less than a minute. I attribute the improved performance because of the type and strength of filtration system. The water stays clear. We do have to shock and use clarifier, but the frequency is much less and will be necessary with any system. I never have to worry about cleaning the surface before putting my baby in the water. HUGE, time saver. Thatโs pretty impressive considering the trees around the pool. We do run the pump 12hrs/day most days, especially when we swim. I hope this helps anyone considering either switching to a saltwater system or upgrading to sand. This is the way to go. Itโs more costly initially, and the sand is an additional cost, but we feel this will save us money in the long run. I believe the sand lasts 5-7 years.

Worth the money and you make it back in time not having to check and add chlorine.
This is my third unit in 10 years. They work great and I have never had one fail in the same manner, so it isnโt an inherent flaw in design. The first one had circuit board corrosion and would pump but not make chlorine anymore. I bought a second unit and that one was a little small once I upgraded my pool, so I gave it to a neighbor and he still uses it. I got a larger one from another neighbor and used it for 3 years and then it needed the plates replaced that generate the reaction for chlorine production. I could have simply replaced the plates, but for a small amount more I could upgrade and have the newest model. Thatโs what I did and this unit works fantastic! Looks great and keeps my pool nice and crystal clear. The footprint is not that big so you are not giving up a lot of area and the fittings when properly installed do not leak. I use lubrication on all O rings and rubber seals that I got from a pool supply store. Couldnโt be happier!

Saltwater already failed
Had this pump for a couple of years just turned it over to saltwater in March 2025 now by May 2025 the saltwater has already failed keeps saying low salt regardless if I put way to much. The to much salt light doesn't come on and the low salt wont go away I've washed soaked the probs nothing is fixing it. So may people are correct this thing doesn't last and the probs are next to the same price of replacing the saltwater part. Ridiculous china parts always fail and then they make it so expensive to replace anything to make it work again. Throw away society but I do like to be able to fix and repair when I can especially when they cost hundreds of dollars. I will never go back to saltwater I will just buy chlorine. Read the reviews it happens far to often that they only last a short amount of time insanely upsetting that nothing is built to last. Oh and the lcd screen has failed as well the numbers are no longer readable had one before the Texas freeze for years and never had a problem until it froze inside and bought the one I have now and this one shouldn't have failed being outside like it's supposed to be in the elements. Plus I paid a premium for this one $500+ because COVID had just happened and everyone jacked up their prices to help out it didn't help me but it helped someone make a killing.

Great salt filter!
I bought this to replace the small mostly useless filters that come with Intex pools. I have a 12 ft round 3 ft deep Intex pool. 1700 gallons. I bought this filter which was minimum 2500 gl pool, but it works perfectly on this smaller pool. The salt water system was easy to set up as was the filter and hoses. You will need a backwash hose (2 in) and adapter or clamp to hold hose in place. You may also need adapter b if you have 1.25 in. hoses. This filter is 1.5 in. hoses. The adapters work great. You can also opt for plungers so you can just turn water flow off when tending to filter. I just have the black caps which work fine, too. My pool sparkles now whereas before I could never keep up with constantly rinsing the small paper type filter that came with it. I highly recommend moving on up to this filter or the like. I am saving so much $$ not buying chlorine anymore.

LEAKING and FLOODING MY YARDโHOUSING LEAKS !
Hello just a piece of friendly ADVICE, before you purchase and read all the rave reviews on Amazon maybe think hard about purchasing the pump directly from Intex because after you add the sand this will not be an easy return. My Brand new Intex Salt Water System, has been leaking from the bottom of the housing and flooding my yard since day one. So on top of the pump not working properly the yard stays muddy and nasty all around the pool. NO FUN!! My husband set the pump off before he went offshore and came home to re-configure and put the pump back together another time, checking each seal, tighten the parts, making sure nothing my cracked or missing, etc. and the pump continues to leak. I have a small 30 x 12 pool, so purchased this thinking it was the Holy Grail of the pump world and would not have to worry about my pool but instead I have a muddy flooded yard and a pump that isnโt impressing me anymore than the one the pool came with. Invested in this pump to see how well it worked before purchasing a bigger pool and it has been nothing but a headache and disappointment. Maybe I just received and defective one so with that being said purchase from the company who makes this product and can give you support along the way. Best advice I can give you because I wish I had.

Good pump, easy to understand and install, low maintenance for pool, poor customer support
Upgraded to this pump for the 48" tall 15' diameter intex pool knowing the pump that comes with pool has poor performance. Chose the bigger of the two intex salt pumps simply because it was $50 difference and could be easier to resell in future years. Once I had the 1.25 - 1.5" adapter, connection and setup was easy. See rope supports the heavier hoses on intake and return. This is more a problem with the pool not having rigid side to support, but I think if they came off with a 90 instead of straight it would be smarter. I did not cut out the return to install the 1.5" that came with the pump but it hasn't seemed to cause any problem. You can set the timer for running hours, but it only times from the first time of day you start the pump. So you turn it on at noon, it will always start at noon. You can't set it to start at 1 for example. Easy to load sand, dissolve salt in pool. Got concentration correct first time! So they have a good dilution chart. Missed the page on cyanuric acid, so my chlorine wasn't staying. Couldn't get customer support help for weeks, but by then I found the page and solved the problem! Youtube is better than their instruction manual, but it helps for what it is worth. It is compatible with the Intex vacuum so I use that. The pump is way oversized for this pool so I run it about 3-5 hours which even that may be too much. BEST review is that pool maintenance is much reduced. I check with strips weekly and that is about it. Saltwater has been a good starting experience for a pool. I occasionally see some cloudy water, but I respond by running pump extra long and seems to take care of the problem

This is by far the best system we've owned!! AAA+
First time sand pump filtration system owners here! This is by far the best system we've owned for our pool. Simple to use and it has great, easy to use functions such as the timers and booster mode for the chlorinator. The easy to read instructions make the step by step installation hassle free , for a system that gives you sparkling clear pool water that's inviting on the dullest of days. The pic is the second day with the pump system and water is krystal klear.

Highly recommend
First time owning a pool. We thought about it for years. A friend of mine who has had a pool for many years suggested the sand and salt water filter system, so I came on amazon and found this one. We are extremely happy with the filter system and the seller. The filter that came with the pool was a joke. It doesn't help that we live in the country and used well water that was high in iron. We are a week in and this filter is doing an amazing job. We noticed the filter wasn't as strong today (even than it was stronger than what came with the pool), so we used the backflow (just a turn of the dial) to clean it and watched the iron come out of the filter it was a deep orange and less than a minute later she was running clear again . After that the filtration was strong again.

This is not a complete kit
The product itself looks to be decent quality. I would have used it by now but Intex for some reason decided that they will provide everything you need except the inlet that you need to install on the pool side to use the system. Why in the world would Intex decide to leave out an essential part so you cant use the pool? So I ordered the part that is needed and I will have to wait until it arrives on Tuesday. Silly.

Get this
Absolutely buy this if you have an above ground pool. The paper filters they send with box store pools are a waste of time. I got this as well as a intex skimmer you cut in the side of the pool, best thing I ever did. The chlorine generator worked great for me all summer and the sand filter filled with those filter balls kept it perfectly clean all year with almost no attention paid to it. Well worth the money, I canโt stress that enough. You want this thing
