It is gum tragacanth, a natural substance obtained from several Middle Eastern plants known as goat’s thorn. It is used in good production amongst other things. Put a little on your finger, apply to the edge of leather, and then burnish. It works well.

Does it fix peeling leather?

Hi there. No it doesn’t fix pealing leather. It’s a special conditioner I guess you’d call it. Often used for burnishing edges. Or reconditioning a fading leather. I’d get advice from a leather upholsterer perhaps. Personally, I’d either glue the peeling parts with a flexible leather glue and then either dye it close to original or, gently take away minor peeling depending on the type of leather and then use the tokinol or a coloured version of something similar. Hope that helps.

Can this be painted over?

Not sure about paint but its normal to to use leather dyes over it.
