Used it 3 times now and I am very happy with the performance. I have juiced carrots, apples (remove the core & cut in quarters),cucumbers, berries, & grapes. Intuitively, I used the low speed for the fruit & the high speed for the veggies (the instruction manual advises this as well). I think it makes quick work of the veggies that I juiced. I saw reviews from others saying it bogs down, but I disagree.Quick clean-up, can load on top rack of dishwasher or hand wash, but I think the integrated pulp container is best cleaned in the dishwasher. The base and main parts are stored on my counter, but the citrus attachments will have to find a home in my kitchen cabinets.I am interested to see how it will handle beets. For the $80 purchase price, I know it will quickly pay for itself since I was going to a cafe and paying $4.50 a pop for a 12oz juice. Which isn't a bad price but if you want fresh juice everyday it would get to be expensive. The chef at the cafe has juiced for years and advised me to cut beets into pieces. He even cuts the beets before juicing them in a HUGE commercial juicer that has a tube chute which ejects the pulp directly into a 40 gallon garbage can! I can't imagine how much that thing cost but then again I don't have 2 feet of counter space or 4 figures to spend on juicer. Again very happy so far with the Juiceman JM480S. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Does the job, with a small footprint. *by A***E on March 14, 2012* This juicer was powerful enough for the fibrous greens I threw at it, and the fiber collected in it wasn't too wet. It has to be cleaned out more often than a standard juicer, or it can get backed up and clogged. It's also difficult to tell when it needs cleaning out, due to the centrifugal force, but hey, that's what makes the juicer work in the first place, right? I live in a tiny apartment without a lot of counter-space, so this is a perfect model for my needs. But if you have the space for a larger juicer, you should probably get one of those. ### ⭐ I Hacked My Juiceman *by J***E on April 9, 2012* Juiceman JM480SMy wife and I are daily juicers, every morning for breakfast we juice about 400 ml. It makes juice just like the advertisement claims. After two months(about 60 cycles)of this casual daily activity the juicer simply stopped working.THE HACK, sense the juicer stopped working I hacked it (took it apart) to see why... this is what I found. The entire inside of the juicer was coated with a thin sweet smelling sticky film, (YUCK) even though we were careful to wipe it down after each use. The problem was easy to identify. The on/off switch has contactors, some of the sticky film was on the contactor, that why the juicer didn't work. It was an easy fix with a damp Q-tip. There are also two small safety contactors to prevent the juicer from working if it's not properly secured before use (GOOD - SAFETY), however they were also showing signs of the sticky yuckness. If it wasn't the on/off switch it would have been one of the contactors. The sticky yuck that accumulates inside could have been easily resolved with a couple of cheap well placed seals.QUALITY, this unit is made to throw away. The entire unit is made of recyclable plastic (GOOD) but if you are a fixer type like me don't mess with the rotating cup, it breaks under the slightest pressure rendering the juicer useless (BAD). The manufacturer uses `funny' screws (BAD), those special screws not available to the public. (I modified a screwdriver with a file to hack the juicer). Stainless? Don't be fooled, like most stainless looking products, the "stainless" is actually plastic with a micro-thin coating that looks like stainless.WARRANTY, replacement was easy, although I did go through about 20 min of press 1 for this and 7 for that, and being on hold due to unexpected call volumes (DAUH)... To get it replaced simply cut the end of the cord off and send it to OHIO with the provided transition code. Disposal of the unit is your problem(BAD). If you want to recycle it you have to take it apart. (FUNNY SCREWS!?!)CONCLUSION - This Juicer is designed to fail. The more you use it the faster it will fail. It is also designed with a through-away mentality not a recycling mantality. Even though it is made of recycled plastic it is also full of windings and metal parts etc...making it non-recyclable as an assembly. This is the kind of product that is bad for our environment, cheaply made with a short life span, and usually ends up in the landfill as a unit. Sense they are sending me a new one I will end up put two of these in the Klickitate County Landfill within a year (BAD). But I think I might take the new one apart and modify it to keep the sticky ooze on the outside!
