Is anyone using this product while battery is in the vehicle. harm?** A: As instructed by Mroinge, I disconnected my battery from my car (in storage in my car port) then used this product for 4 months, reconnecting the battery and disconnecting this device every week and starting my car. All went well until I put the car back into service.......issues with the car's computer system. Eventually scrapped the car, only partially for this set of issues. Just bought a more modern car, my mechanic told me to scrap this MBC010 immediately and use a "battery tender" and to never disconnect the battery from the car. So.....this product seems to be entirely misleading in its representation and application. Beware, beware...... **Q: the red light keeps flashing. If I wiggle the alligator clamps, the red light will stop flashing but in few minutes, flashing occurs again.** A: According to instructions a flashing red light means it is not charging. I would make sure you have clean battery terminals or check it on another battery you know is good, if it still flashes red it could be a defective charger. Mine only flashes red when it is not hooked up to a battery. **Q: What is the voltage output?** A: The voltage output varies depending upon where the charger is in its charge cycle and the state of charge of the battery. The maximum voltage I observed was about 14.2 during the charge and about 13.0 during float /maintain. So this charger should be good for use on AGM batteries, which should not be charged at more than 14.5 v. **Q: Can this charge a battery from zero volts? (A good one that was discharged by say leaving interior light on or something.)** A: Hi. I can attest that this charger will NOT start charging a fully discharged 12V lead acid battery. I went away for two months and left my 12V battery disconnected from this charger but with a slow drain on my battery. When I returned, my battery was at zero volts, so I reattached this unit to bring it up. It continually flashed red for a full 12 hours and my battery remained at zero. So I connected a 5A booster for under an hour and then my volts increased to just over 7V. I reattached this unit and bingo! The battery has now maintained over 13V. This has been over four months now, and the green light is now on. I have learnt that this unit requires a small feedback voltage from the battery to function. It is a great product. As a bonus all the connectors have caps to protect the terminals when not in use; most other chargers do not have those. This is particularly important for the permanent pigtail should you install that. The cap makes sure that the ground terminal (exposed one in the SAE plug) does not accidentally touch an electrically "active" point such as the pos (+) terminal on the battery which could cause a short. Another bonus is the 10 ft long cord on the charger; with the pigtail or clamps connected gives a total of 12 ft or cord length. Clamps are copper colored as opposed to the usual chrome look on others; appears higher quality. This is a great maintenance charger at a great price. For trickle / maintenance use, the 1.0 Amp DC capacity is fine; I use this on a car that is not daily driven. I also own a couple of other major brand name maintenance chargers and this one is right up there with them.
