Moxon Vise Hardware Kit with 2 each 8 Inch x 3/4-10 Threaded Rods, 2 each 4-1/2 Inch Cast Knobs and 4 each 3/4 inch Nuts and Washers

I bought this kit from Taylor Toolworks after watching a YouTube video from Tamar at 3x3Custom. She made building a Moxon vise look very easy, as she does a great job explaining and showing how to do it. As it turns out, the instructions that come with the kit, which she follows closely in the video, are great. They provide detailed step-by-step instructions and provide numerous options to make the vise that fits your needs best. The hardware is very heavy duty and should last a lifetime. I was able to build my Moxon vise out of 2" cherry in just a few hours. Now I have a great addition to my workbench, especially for hand tool work. I have bought many products from Taylor Toolworks, including F clamps, parallel clamps, a digital level, sand paper, bench dog clamps and more. Every product I've bought has been high quality and a great addition to my shop. This Moxon vise kit meets the same standard.

Great Product

I ordered the kit after seeing numerous videos using a Moxon vise. One day after completing mine I see why they are so popular. Ideally I would have used maple or oak, but this pine 2x6 was what I had and it was free! There were no instructions in the box, just a QR code that I honestly didn't bother with. I'd seen enough videos to know what to do. The hardware is beefy and well cast. The threads on the shafts, nuts, and the handwheels didn't need any chasing. The great thing also about this is that it is reusable! If I decide I need more space between the shafts or want hardwood, I only need to use different length boards/wood. The hardware is not permanent. I made this size because I currently only have this much room on my small bench. If I get a larger space/bigger bench, I can change to a longer vise. There's 16 inches between the bolts and for now, I don't see needing any wider. Good materials and well worth the very reasonable price.

The Moxon vice is a very useful tool when dealing with odd shaped or oversized wood projects. I used this kit in conjunction with the design from Taylor Toolworks to give me a portable moxon vice compatable with my small shop.

I wanted a mini-bench with vise to use on top of my regular bench to hold work for sawing dovetails and finish planing tapered pieces like table legs. i don't expect to use this bench frequently, so i didn't want to spend a lot. I had an old 1" thick hardwood workbench top that i cut up, glued and remade into this vise/bench. The moveable jaw has extended oval shaped holes for the threaded rods so it can be closed at an angle on tapered workpieces. The inside jaw is lined with Crubber to provide a bit of cushioning and provide a good grip on the workpiece. My mini-bench is a modified version of Tamar's (see youtube) and i used her idea for red thread locker on the handles to bond them permanently to the threaded rods. I embedded a couple of nuts in the underside of the bench to screw the rods into. The rods are not acme threaded, so they aren't as smooth to operate, but this kit is less than half the cost of one with acme threads. I personally like the handles in this kit better than round ones used elsewhere. The vise works well, so mission accomplished. I may use it more than i originally thought :). The vise parts arrived in a plastic bag and are coated with a gunky grease for rust prevention during shipping. A little messy to remove, but ok. Overall, this kit is a great value.

This kit comes with all the hardware and a link to instructions to make your own moxon vise. You supply the wood ( I used ash ) and use the instructions to design your own version. The instructions are more of a guideline and some helpful tips to make the vise to your preference . I can recommend this kit if you want a very sturdy vise and don’t mind to put a little effort into it.
