A cat had scratched a vintage secretary desk and I had put up with the eye-sore for years. I did not want to tackle refinishing myself or pay dearly for someone else to do it, so I figured I had nothing to lose and decided to try Howard Restor-A-Finish. I used very fine (0000) steel wool and gently rubbed as instructed. I was amazed how simple to use and the beautiful results. The mahogany color was perfect!

**Q: Will it help with acetone stain?**
A: What I’m sure your seeing is not a stain, acetone would of removed some of the varnish or protective coat giving you patches, so depending on the size of the area and location it shouldn’t be a problem. The approach would be to make a paste using hard wax, start with a couple of drops of the closest shade, and increase the wax paste/restore a finish ratio until you get a good blend, let it sit for a few minutes, buff. and repeat if you need too.

**Q: Have an old dresser turning into bathroom vanity. color is dark and matching stain looks like gooseberry. What color do I use?**
A: Go to "Howard RF 1008, 8 Ounce Restor-A-Finish". They show 9 colors. As you click on each color. Match the closest color seen on the can with that of your dresser.

**Q: Will rub on transfers adhere to finished wood?**
A: I used this product on our front door which was slightly weathered & dull, but still had a finish on it.  It soaked into the finish & the door looks much better.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Must-use for worn wood

We were selling a 6-year old home that had several scuffs and worn stain on the treads of our oak stairs, despite regular cleaning (family of 5 plus dogs, a cat, visitors galore, etc. take a toll on wood). I was anticipating a full sand and re-stain effort, until I found this item here during my search for stains. Im not usually one for short cuts, but I figured, what could this hurt? Wow. One evening before taking the family out to dinner, I applied this easy to use product to each of my stair treads. Immediately I could see an improvement in the evenness of the stain color. When I returned from dinner the stairs looked like 3 or 4 years of wear were turned back. The color 90%+ held up for 2 months, including brutal traffic from showings and moving which brought back the style we needed to sell. I’d imagine this would last several months with little wear appearance under normal circumstances. Obviously sanding and staining is the ideal way to remove scratches and worn stain to a new-product look. But if you need a quick fix that holds up well for the interim (and you can have a window open for an hour or two to vent the strong scent), this is incredible.
