I have not used the Nupastel product. I use traditional dustless chalk, like Prang which is about 3/8" diameter. The Nupastel products that I found at Blick online are shown to be 1/4" square. The Nupastel product, using pythagorean theorem figures to be .35355 from corner to corner which approximates diameter. Traditional chalk is about 3/8" diameter which translates to .375 inch... therefor almost the same. Traditional chalk is about 3 1/4 inches in length. Blick lists the Nupastel as 3 5/8 inches in length... which is about 3/8 inch longer. When I insert a brand new piece of traditional chalk in my Koh-i-noor, it drops all the way to the back, however when the jaws are fully retracted, such that they are not clasping the chalk, the chalk appears to be about 1/2 of an inch at most down in the barrel... but there isn't much play. My guess is that if the jaws successfully hold the Nupastel chalk, the jaws might not fully retract... but that could be alleviated by either slightly shortening the length of the Nupastel chalk or just using it a bit until the Koh-i-noor jaws fully retract. Let me know if I am thinking of the same Nupastel product you are using... and if so, I will ask the local arts shop if they have some that I can sample. **Q: Do they make a lead for this?** A: For sure, there are plenty of leads available for all the Koh-i-noor holders!! **Q: Will it hold rectangular pastel chalk?** A: It depends on the size of the pastel chalk. Compare with a standard size of round chalk. If the pastel chalk is larger you would need to trim the edges to fit it properly. Good luck. **Q: What diameter chalk will fit in this holder? standard u.s. 3/8" chalk (i.e. prang) or the slightly larger japanese chalk (i.e. rikagaku or hagoromo)?** A: That is a very good question. I am using 3/8" (9.525 mm) chalk. I found one reference to the diameter of Hagoromo as .4" (10.16 mm). When I look in the barrel of the Koh-i-noor, there is a very small gap around the 9.525 mm chalk that I am using even though the Koh-i-noor web site states that this chalk holder is designed for only 9 mm. The difference between .4 inch and .375 inch is .025 inch or 1/40 inch. Another person answering this question stated that they purchased some Hagoromo and that it did not fit. I understand that Hagoromo may be out of business and it may therefore not be considered wise to alter the diameter of the product, however 1/40 inch should be quite doable if you wanted to do so. I came across this item and because I really enjoy using my other Koh-i-noor products decided to give it a try. After receiving it, I am now seriously looking for either a chalk chuck leather holder or perhaps a boiled wool holder to keep it in when I carry it in my jacket. This item is a work of art as far as chalk holders go. It is built like a tank, weighs about 2 ounces without any chalk loaded (much heavier than the other ones I was using), is right at 5/8" (almost 16 mm) in outside diameter, 4" long, and with a smooth black finish and polished metal button and chuck. Although the surface is smooth, it is very easy for me to hold. The seller is Vitalex Company, Czech Republic. The order arrived very promptly, actually, I received it about a week or so before it was estimated to arrive. Now all I have to do is find a finer grade chalk to begin using... something that is worthy to be held by this instrument. PS...
