Horrible Product from LSI, fair deal from Amazon
As a long time user of LSI Logic RAID controllers, I really hate the current trend of charging huge prices for add on components that really should be included in their products free. Items which would have been included in every retail box five years ago are now provided as extras at ridiculous prices.Examples of this include - Not including SAS cables in a server class SAS+SATA controller, even though most servers are going to have SAS drives as their primary, and SAS cables are backward compatible with SATA's. Not including basic software additions like "Safestore" which is a simple "ask for password and pass it to the drive at boot time" addition to the firmware that probably took less that 2 days of engineering time to write and test. And finally this joke of a product - a mounting bracket for a Capacitor or Battery that you already were over-charged for, and should have been included in the BBU package to begin with. This $38 dollar marvel is literally a 12 cent card-shaped PCB, with a 3 cent PCI mounting bracket and a couple holes drilled into it to allow 0.5 cents worth of screws to pass through. I would guess it cost LSI about 18 cents to make - labor included, but they feel the need to not include it with the BBU kit and charge us extra for it. Not to mention that you probably don't realize you need it until after your buy the BBU kit, thus delaying your server upgrade procedures. So you as the administrator waste $500 of administration costs to rebuy something that you should have had already.Shame on LSI, whomever is running things over there should be fired, and banned from working in the IT world for the rest of his/her life. That said, if you have to buy this over-priced PoS battery holder - Amazons price is fair against market value and their delivery is great as usual. Yay Amazon, Boo LSI.

VERY disappointing.
As a previous reviewer said, this is nothing but a ripoff. LSI should have included it with the $200 cache module. Another problem, and just as frustrating, is that it does NOT come with the clip necessary to attach the battery pack. WTF?!?!?! This has become a waste of many, many days. Also - the product that arrived does not look like the photo - in the photo the board is black. The product I'm holding in my hand is the standard green of an IC board. Not a problem, but why the difference?I'm on the verge of sending the whole mess back - raid card included. That's a $900 lost sale for you guys at Amazon, and you brought it on yourselves by not doing your homework on a product you sell.
