It became such a necessity that I started keeping another on my desk for jotting down notes and recording flashes of inspiration. My notebook of choice was the Field Notes brand. It was a perfect size and had a sturdy cover enclosing 48 pages of perfect writing paper. At $10 for a 3-pack, they seemed a bit pricey, but worth every penny to me. I have also used the hardcover, black-bound Moleskine books for decades. On a whim last year I decided to replace my beloved Field Notes books with the Moleskine alternative. I couldn't be more pleased. They're a dollar cheaper per 3-pack. Each notebook has 16 more pages, stitched instead of stapled, of the same quality as their larger cousins.
