desertcart.com: The Belgariad, Vol. 2 (Books 4 & 5): Castle of Wizardry, Enchanters' End Game: 9780345456311: Eddings, David: Books Review: good book - great book Review: The conclusion to a thoroughly engaging fantasy epic... - "The Belgariad, Vol. 2" includes the last two books in "The Belgariad" series, "Castle of Wizardry" and "Enchanters' End Game". Truth to be told, these books are even better than the first three, and it is highly likely that you will find them thoroughly enjoyable. Despite that, a word of advice is in order: remember to read the books in "The Belgariad" series in their correct order, because only then will you fully enjoy them. That means that even if you are given "The Belgariad, Vol. 2" as a gift, you should buy "The Belgariad, Vol. 1" (that includes the first three book in the series) and read it first. It seems simple enough, but I think I must highlight the importance of that little tip. If you are still reading this review, it means that you have already read "Pawn of Prophecy", "Queen of Sorcery" and "Magician's Gambit". In "Castle of Wizardry" and "Enchanters' end-game", we meet once again with the same characters, but we are allowed to watch the way in which they have grown. That is specially noticeable in the case of Belgarion, who comes to terms with his destiny, and with what it implies. C'Nedra is also somewhat surprising, as the spoiled little queen becomes a general while trying to aid Belgarion's quest. On the whole, I can say that I highly recommend "The Belgariad, Vol. 2" to teens and adults alike, because I believe that both will find it entertaining and worthwhile reading. I think that everybody will be able to appreciate the fast-paced action and the dry humour that pervade these books. Of course, there is a pitfall. This fantasy epic is so engaging that after finishing it you will be left wanting for more. Fortunately, David Eddings has written a wonderful sequel, "The Malloreon", that I also recommend to you. Having said that, happy reading :) Belen Alcat

The Belgariad is just a perfect series
This is book 4 and 5 of the series. Books 1, 2, and 3 I got for my Kindle. I will not complain about this book, of the 200 or so books I have read, I've read this series more than any other series I've ever read (15+times) in 30 years. The characters come to life, you feel for them, you laugh at them, you comfort them (well, at least I did) and to me that makes a book feel real. I just wish they'd get over to the Kindle edition with it so I can read without a lamp at night.

My Favorite books!
These books are absolutely my favorite. David Eddings creates an amazingly detailed and intricate world, complete with thorough histories and lore. And at no point does it become boring or feel like you're just trying to make it through certain sections. Each sentence pulls you into the next, compelling you to keep reading eagerly. I can never put it down when I read it. The characters are perfect, with such distinct and interesting personalities and stories. Even when there is a lull in action, the character interactions will keep you hooked and even laughing out loud while you read.

Reading it to my kids, still a fun adventure story!
I read this 20+ years ago. Better than Lord of the Rings for children and tweens. It's complex without any mind games. Main character starts at about 12 and goes to 16. While there is some emotional and moral development, it's done without the current requirement for teenage angst. It's one of my favorite coming of age fantasy books along with a Wizard of Earthsea. The main characters love interest develops into a strong female lead and there are several other strong female characters as well admittedly often in a nurturing or supportive role. You have to read Polgara the Soceress after reading 11 other books to understand how strong her character is. It's just a fun book and I'd recommend it for kids and adults.

The book is great! Highly recommend!
The Belgariad, delivers a thrilling and satisfying conclusion to this beloved fantasy series. The stakes are higher, the characters continue to grow, and the storytelling is as engaging as ever. David Eddings masterfully weaves adventure, humor, and deep emotional moments into a journey that feels both grand and personal. A must-read for fantasy lovers!

I can't say enough nice things about David and Leigh Eddings works and the Belgariad (and it's sequel The Mallorean) is a massive achievement. I read these books to my boys as youngsters and (right up there with CS Lewis and Tolkien, and later we all went thru Rowling but by then individually), it spurred them all on to become avid readers themselves, (as well as good students!) Eddings work is original and deeply detailed, richly and diversely peopled and yet refreshingly funny, does not take itself so seriously, overall a great read and re-read! These I bought to take over to read to my small nephew now that my own boys are grown and gone I miss the charm of nightly reading time! They were my first choice! One of my youngest boy's first words was the 3 syllable name of the primary heroine in these stories! :-D

First time I've read this series and I'm in my 30s. I followed it with the mallorean books. I love the world, the characters and the whole story. It's full of twists, adventure and loveable people. You won't get bored. It's one of those I'll definitely re-read in the future. Brilliant.

Following the first three stories in the series, Castle of Wizardry and Enchanters' End Game bring to fruition the Prophecy of the Mrin Codex and the Godslayer's eventual meeting with Torak the insane God. The Belgariad series is a masterpiece of fantasy. Rich with its own histories and colourful characters, it sweeps the reader across centuries without ever stumbling or losing the threads of its tapestry.
