It works because I could pair it with a decent tripod!
Having the ability to sight in my gear after traveling is essential for a successful hunt. I have been looking for a portable solution and a good rest atop a rock-solid tripod is a winning combination. The problem is that as a woman and a professional photographer it was obvious that companies that make that kind of gear are selling junk tripods, which made their offerings pointless. Yep, it is the 21st Century guys and we know gear too! In the past I made do and was never pleased. So, two days ago I put together the correct combination of words and uncovered this product, ordered it, and when it arrived today I immediately tried it out. It is steady atop my studio tripod and my carbon fiber one as well. In fact, if they made a hefty one similar in weight to a bench model my tripods could easily handle it and I could sight in my .50 caliber black powder that was my brothers. The tripods are Manfrotto and cost about $300, which is nothing compared to the cost of hunting gear, ammo, and guns.

Pistol hunting
This is going to work well for hunting with a revolver. Not rock steady but will definitely help with longer shots. Very adjustable to be able to hold any gun. Pic is a S&w 460 xvr.

It works well with Gen II tripod
Some reviews have been confusing. I used this on a Gen 2 Primos tripod and it installs correctly. It’s very light but by adjusting the tripod legs correctly, it held up my rifle. It might not last very long but the lightweight combination is better than the heavier gun tripods on the market. If you want simple and not a high maintenance shooter or hunter, this will work.

Felt better than expected
I honestly expected this to feel far weaker than it was. It's nice and light which makes me consider it even more for my gen 3 tripod going into the field. It's a perfect attachment if you do groundblind hunting or have spots on the ground you sit. I wish I didn't have to devise a tether to sling over the yokes and secure the muzzleloader or something, but for what it is, I'm far more than satisfied.

Primos 2 point gun cradle
Good product. Have it mounted on my Primos trigger stick. Good for those long sits in areas that could present longer shots. Good seller.

Too Small, Rests Offer Poor Rifle Support, Not A Stable Platform
Just plain too small ! It needs to be twice as big to support my deer rifle which is a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight. I became disabled from a stroke 4 years ago. I bought a Caldwell's Field Pod two years ago. The fixture than holds the rifle works great ! The problem is the tri-pod . I hunt from a sitting position and it isn't tall enough and once the lower legs are fully extended it's kind of flimsy. I have a heavier tri-pod and was looking for just an item like this. I thought it would be the solution to my problem. Unfortunately, this gun rest is woefully inadequate even for my smallish deer rifle. The overall length is only 16 inches with a width of 2 inches versus the field pod's 22 & 4 and the rifle yokes don't offer much fore to aft nor rolling support. The Field Pod's yokes cradle the rifle snugly. The attachment pad to the tripod is only 1.75 inches in diameter and with the weight of a rifle allows too much play. I wish I could attach photos to make my point. I hate to criticize a product, but this one is just plain inadequate to support a deer rifle.
