Yamaha factory original mouthpiece for a reasonable price. Fits like a glove!
My daughter took up the clarinet and I rented a Yamaha clarinet for a while, but after a few months, I decided to buy an identical Yamaha clarinet "used" instead of continuing to pay rental fees. But I didn't want my daughter to have to use the previously-used mouthpiece that came with the used clarinet that I bought, so I bought this one on Amazon instead... a brand new identical Yamaha mouthpiece. Fit like a glove, and she has been playing so well, that she scored at the top of her class! Yamaha Clarinet Mouthpiece 4C

Great mouthpiece for student band player
We purchased this mouthpiece based on reviews and recommendations from band instructors for my child in school band. We are very pleased. We obtained a used, older model Bundy clarinet and decided to get it fully cleaned and repadded and get a new mouthpiece. My child says that the used clarinet with new mouthpiece is easier to play, and makes a nicer sound, than his Bundy rental clarinet and the standard mouthpiece that came with the rental. (My child's music grade even went up!) The mouthpiece also seems a better quality than the standard mouthpiece on the rental clarinet, and we had no problems inserting the mouthpiece with minimal wax application to the cork.

Doesn't fit the clarinet, and no ligature will fit it properly
firstly it does not fit the clarinet barrel. I hoped that we could wear down the cork a little bit and it would fit, but it does not. It is ridiculous trying to getit to fit down in the barrel eating with a ton of grease, and then once you do good luck at getting it apart again. Secondly, I have ordered three or four different ligatures now trying to find one that will fit it properly and so far no luck.I'm not going to waste my time and money trying to force this one mouthpiece to be worth a darn, I guess I will have to order my daughter something else instead. I hate that I wasted the money on it and I honestly should have just returned it from the get-go. it sounds like crap to boot, but that's probably because it's so difficult to get anything to fit properly. And I'm not new to the clarinet. I guess if you're really lucky and have the perfect literature andthe one or two clarinets that this thing might actually fit, it could work for you. However, if you have anything other than the exact Yamaha model this was made for I would go with something else

A Good Product
I suspect Yamaha includes this mouthpiece with its beginner level clarinets as it is probably designed to be useable by a most players. It likely compromises performance characteristics for easy playability. It might not be the best for any individual, but it is probably a good starting place for most. I bought it to go with a used old Yamaha clarinet that came with a Buffet mouthpiece that had clearly seen a lot of use.The mouthpiece fits perfectly in my Yamaha YCL-24 clarinet.I'm currently using a Rico 2.5 reed. This worked better for me than Rico 2.0s and 3.5s.

UPDATE - What changed? Didn't fit.
I decided to try another one of these and I was pleased. I think the one I had previously was defective. Best mouthpiece in the price range and really improves tone quality and playability of lesser student instruments that come with subpar mouthpieces.I know these are good mouthpieces. The reason for the 2 stars is that it didn't fit the 2 clarinets that we have. I think it may be due to a manufacturing defect or change of some kind. I have an older 4C and this has never been an issue.

Good mouthpiece. Nice intonation and easy blowing on my Buffet clarinet. I had to do some sanding of the cork and the tenon base to get it to fit properly on my vintage clarinet - but it is no big deal if done carefully. You will need to use lots of cork grease until it is broken-in. I liked it so much I purchased a Yamaha 4C for my alto sax. Big improvement over the mouthpiece that came with the horn.

Super Disappointed
After two months of use, it got knocked off the music stand (middle school kids - it happens) and fell 2 1/2ish feet onto a wooden stage floor. The end completely shattered. Amazon assured me there was a warranty and directed me to Yamaha. I contacted them (that was fun - several different people & phone numbers only to finally be given an email) and was told that sucks. We can't help you. Get a different brand. No fall of that short a distance should have shattered a mouthpiece in this way. Poorly made, warranty is a sham.

A Good Buy After Adjustments
This is a very good mouthpiece. The only issue I had was that it did not fit my barrel; too large. I had to work the cork down quite a bit to get it to fit. I have a Selmer clarinet and perhaps they use a barrel with a slightly smaller diameter. But one I got it adjusted to fit well it works great and I like it. It is up to the standards I expect from Yamaha and I would recommend it to anyone.
