It works great now!!! I played about 6 or 7 albums - No skipping or volume dipping (except on the beginning of one of my old mid 70's records that was a little warped and I could actually see some gunk on it) and it sounds quite good (especially for what it is). So that's the deal - some sort of wonky electronics between the turntable and it's internal speakers. Not really very listenable without some external speaker system, but pretty decent otherwise. First time in decades that I've heard some of these albums on a turntable.
