in The Hall of The Mountain King

This is a good game, but I think that there are areas which need tweaking. The game is fun, it is involved, and it has a good production quality. It has a puzzle quality to it. You have to lay down tunnel pieces to show where you are tunneling and there are rules for how you can tunnel through the mountain.I like the spells, I like the layers to the center of the mountain, I like the building of chambers and also building altar/statues. Workshops are a great idea.I do not like the way they have the trolls setup for finding resources. The setup requires cascading style. These trolls do not find resources in the tunnels, but instead the trolls have the resources are fixed to them. This is sort of stupid because as I tunnel I would expect to find resources not have resources tied to the troll card. I find this process limit the progress of the player.I am thinking about setting up a 'house rule' where after you setup a troll and get the resources, that those resources go in to a vault instead of being held by the troll. This way, when you hire another troll to work for you that you automatically get another set of resources for the existing trolls.There are other issues with the game that are minor and only an opinion of mine for how the game should have been produced.

Excellent game, the components are fun and great quality. Great engine building game.

This is not a rating of the game, rather disappointed that game board came damaged. All other parts came intact as expected.

In the Hall of the Mountain King is a fantastic game. It is a great combination of tight resource management with tile placement. You snake your tiles towards the center of the map, using different resources to dig tunnels, the different resources give varying amounts of points when you dig a tunnel. There is a great balancing act between using cheap resources to dig out far, but scoring low points and using expensive resources to cash in.There are many ways to score points and no one strategy seems to be the full proof method to winning. It also features a well fleshed out COOP mode that isn't just tacked on. It is an entirely new game mode with a few new rules that fits very well.

This is one of the few games my family plays over and over. The first time setup was daunting but we followed a YouTube video rather than reading the rule book and it made it pretty simple. The game isn't complicated. It just has a tone of pieces.

Came with a cloth bag which was mouldy, Burnt island games were excellent and sent a replacement internationally at no cost. Everything else great.
