I love these beans - eat a bag every two weeks or so. Just mix what you need and if you don't use all of it - just put it in the fridge. Very versatile and needs no extra seasoning.

These things are great. Taste the best of any instant refried beans. The smaller size means you can be on a long bike trip or a hike, carry them easily & if you can make hot water, you've got a meal.

I live in New Mexico and I swear these are the best refried beans of any kind, anywhere. We’re blessed with Mexican and New Mexican Food restaurants on every street corner and we eat at all of them. Rice and beans are a staple of every plate and we eat all of them! I eat the fat-free version of these and they’re delicious and authentic, after all they’re Santa Fe beans. A purist might refry them in a little lard, but I never have needed to. They taste absolutely fresh and delicious. I’d put them up against any freshly-mashed and fried ones. I do add a clove of garlic, some chopped cilantro and cumin, just to my personal taste. Just boil water, add the package of beans, stirring the beans into the boiling water and turn stovetop down to “Low.” Stir, put the pot lid on and stir again in a few minutes. When they’re the consistency you prefer, I like mine drier rather than soupier, they’re done. All in all it only takes a few minutes to prepare. I add 1 1/2 cups of water instead of 2 for my slightly chunkier, drier beans. If you like them very creamy, try the whole 2 cups of water. Enjoy!

We enjoy these as a change from the standard canned beans. Could use some dressing up, added flavor (we we like to do) but in a pinch it’s been a good simple add on as well.

I've been buying these beans for years. They have a superior flavor, without any chemicals or lard. For an organic, heart healthy, high protein, high fiber, smooth, low-salt, rewarding, delicious snack, this product can't be beat. Nutritionally speaking, this is a far better choice than the vitamin void, Mac 'n Cheese. They taste as good, if not better, than the refried beans you get from your favorite Mexican restaurant. No need to make the entire package.....as a widow, I make single portions. Takes less than five minutes....A good friend even uses them for homemade chili, as a thickener. I have them plain, or add onions, peppers, cilantro, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, hot salsa, on a tortilla for a veggie dinner. The black bean version is also wonderful! Try 'em, you'll LOVE 'em. K. I think a few reviewers have gotten carried away (or maybe they just never had anything but canned before). These beans are a good value and definitely taste better than canned, but they're not going to change your life. The light packaging, long shelf life, and simple preparation make this a good product for camping or emergency supplies. It's not easy to tell from the picture, but the bags are zip-lock type so you can make a portion of the package and reseal the rest. However, the instructions only cover the amount of water appropriate for the whole bag, so you're on your own to measure for a portion. Hint: start conservatively because it's easy enough to add more water later. Overall nutrional values are better than average. I like to mix both cheese and salsa into my beans, but the result is fairly high in total sodium. Sodium level of the bean mix itself isn't too bad, but I wish they added less salt because anybody can easily add salt if desired, but you can't take out what they've already added. Since many people like to add things to their beans anyway, it would be ideal for the beans to start out with as little sodium as possible.
