Great Book
I loved the book and it was even better because I played BGA and it was great to understand the wider lore here and there.

Great bok with som minor problems.
Great book! Some minor annoyance tho, he jumps between events and characters constantly, but in the end it isnt that much of a problem. A must read! Gritty and brutal as hell.

An outstanding read
Having been a longtime 40k can and a former GW employee during the eye of terror csmpaign, this brought a lot of detail to the fall of Car is as well as putting a very human face on it. Well worth it and highly recommended.

Page turner, weekend read
My God, if you haven't read this book, you need to. As a Cadian player its such qn intense book. People you hate grow into such inspirational characters and you turn each page just hoping these heroes reborn survive. The last 2 chapters are such a gut punch, you feel for the loss.

Couldn’t put it down
Great book if you ever get tired of reading about the power armored giants and just want to read about ordinary people and also gives a good backstory to an important part of 40k lore.

Beautiful story arcs, eyesores of contradictions and gaps
I adore the scale the author adds to the 40k universe, showing the scale of both the imperial guard and of black crusades. The main and supporting characters have their moments where they have some personality and some charm for the level of detail it’s written with. But this book is riddled in my opinion by macguffins, plot holes and outright contradictions. Contradictions range from the same officer being referred to as major and a colonel in the same page to a chaos space Marine war band being at two places at the same time. The story takes the worst parts of both a centralized story around a core group of characters and large focus story based around the overall event. The book jumps between several characters and units with often with no introduction for a few pages, sometimes existing just long enough to be killed off two pages later with no impact on the story. Because you’re constantly jumping between these stories it then clouds the overall status of the war for Cadia since it’s giving brief indications of the larger world between its jumpy updates on shallow characters. This book could have been so much more if it focused on either extreme, giving a strong center cast or clear view of the world.Instead you have a story that as wide as an ocean and deep as a puddleTL;DR a good weekend read with neat action scenes, but don’t read too much into details or else you’ll have an aneurysm from the plot holes.

Loved how it switches from different perspectives across the battle for Cadia. Well written and would recommend as a good starter for getting into Black Library

The Guard Never Breaks
Cadia Stands. My first foray into Warhammer 40-K literature since one borrowed book in high school, Cadia Stands does not disappoint. An epic war saga told from the perspective of the men and women on the ground rather than the god-like Space Marines it's pretty well a non-stop work of sci-fi military fiction from cover to cover. However, it is somewhat hamstrung by its lack of a main character and central focus in the story. This weakness is also its strength as Cadia Stands is able to switch gracefully from on the micro level to macro level. From General Gruber commanding a vast army into battle to Whiteshield Minka Lesk fighting a desperate and bleak war of attrition through the ruins of her homeworld. It allows readers to both appreciate the scope of planet-wide warfare and the individual personal horror of it all. What characters that do remain for more then a single segment such a Gruber, Lesk and General Bendkit of the Cadian 101st are well developed and have a good cast of characters to support them. Watching their efforts and reading of their valour is both heartwarming and heartbreaking considering the fact that the planet breaks before they do.All in all, fantastic read with some issues when it comes to focus and scope. Could easily have been a trilogy of books. Still, it's worth picking up on kindle.

Pound for pound
Blow after blow of the beginning of the 13th black crusade and the first big target. Down to the micro detail. Exhausting.
