Looks Dorky, Works Great!
A moving novelty item that actually works. Certain objects — mattresses, long cabinets, chest freezers — either lack hand-holds or leave you hunched over and out of position. The shoulder dolly excels on exactly these items. The harness keeps weight around your core instead of extended out in front of you, which is a major back saver. Once cinched down, it's sturdy and not liable to slip. Your hands are free to balance the load, open doors, or grab handrails, and your head is free to actually look where you're going. The system takes some getting used to and requires communication between both lifters, but that's true of any two-person carry. It's least effective on stairs — the downhill person has the item pressed into them while the uphill person is too far away to have much control. That's physics, not a flaw with the product, and the situation isn't any better without it. I bring it to every move I help with, not because it works for everything, but because for certain items it's unbeatable. It pairs well with forearm forklift straps — both do different jobs and both do them well.

Shoulder Dolly Moving Straps
If you use "Shoulder Dolly Moving Straps" correctly, meaning two people working carefully together, constantly controlling the weight and overall balance of heavy / bulky objects (particularly appliances and furniture), then you will quickly learn the value of this product. My son and a friend used the Shoulder Dolly Straps to safely move a smaller "Spinnet" Piano. Keep in mind whatever that object actually weighs, you and a partner would be effectively splitting that total weight, sharing the total load. The beauty of the product is if you are standing straight, NOT in a hurry, and take your time, you can nicely manage moving very heavy, truly bulky items. The weight is also distributed evenly over both partners shoulders. It is a very good means for lifting. It minimizes stress in your lower back by largely distributing the shared, lifted total weight throughout most of your body. And if you use this device properly, you'll be lifting with your legs (upper thighs - "quads") more than your back, especially the lower back. My recommendation is "practice" lifting a lighter object first...say 50 lbs, and learn how best to adjust the Straps. Keep the back straight as best you can, use your arms to maintain lateral (left to right) balance and carefully walk. Once you understand the basics of the Shoulder Dolly, you can "graduate" to heavier objects...even much heavier objects. The key is working together, NOT being in a hurry, and carefully safely moving truly cumbersome appliances and large furniture. For excessively heavy objects, take breaks. Remember if you are moving a Spinnet or perhaps even an Upright Piano, that's impossible for one person. Respect what you are actually doing and remain on task. Don't "compete". Work as an unhurried unit instead...an unhurried team! I would advise abiding by the actual product limits and not an ounce more. If used properly, the Shoulder Dolly is quite durable. I would caution to lift LESS weight when moving items up and down stairs. In time, meaning three or more Shoulder Dolly "lifting opportunities", you and your partner will learn precisely how to use this (quietly amazing) product, particularly how to make better initial adjustments in lengthening or shortening the Straps, coupled with the best (meaning standing straight and as vertically as possible) while still allowing room for your steps. Learning how to fully optimize...how to take full advantage of this product will take time and repetition. With patience and basic attention to the details, you will likely be amazed at what two people can reasonably / safely lift. Generally speaking, the larger and more physically fit the lifting partners are, the greater the safe lifting capacity in using this Shoulder Dolly device. Being patient, communicating well, recognizing simple adjustments and NOT being in a hurry; those qualities will serve ANY lifting partner team extremely well; whether "big and burly" or "trim and petite". Be on the receiving end of the true benefits of this product by doing as I have advised. Consider this the "Cliffnotes Version" of the actual Shoulder Dolly instructions. Me, I will be using my Shoulder Dolly for years to come.

Great!!
Definitely recommended when lifting heavy objects. Very good quality... Same as professional movers would use! Great for the price! Definitely long enough for any size person. Comfortable, Its a little confusing at first trying to put in on yourself at first. Good adjustments. Function as expected. No slipping! Highly recommend...especially if you have bad back

Straps dig when object is excessively heavy
We purchased this trap specifically for one piece of furniture during our move. A heavier than snot dining room Butler made in 1975 from the most dense solid wood ever grown. I'm pretty sure the tree this came from is now extinct. My strongest son and I carried this into the house when we acquired it. There are no lift points on the back, and drawers that don't come out on the front. This leaves a rock climber's grip point on the ends or a dead lift from the ground. We found ourselves about to move as we purchased a new home. I immediately remembered the pain from moving the butler and searched for tools to make the move easier. This strap (or the concept at least) was recommended on Ask This Old House, so I picked one up. We strapped in, did a test lift, sat it down, and adjusted the straps. Any twist in the shoulder strap does cause pain as expected with anything not worn properly. Unfortunately we could not find a comfortable position with this behemoth. However, we WERE able to carry it. It was still heavy, bulky, and painful, but we were able to move it. The straps allowed us to trade the lack of lift points to a balancing act. A trade well worth it. It was easier to balance and walk the entire distance than it was to go 5 feet and stop with finger cramps. We were tired afterwards, and we fully acknowledge that we did not know what we were doing. We don't know if we had the shoulder straps on correctly, if we lifted correctly, walked correctly, but we do know we sweat correctly. At the end of the day, this was WELL worth the purchase, but then again, we have a great chiropractor.
