Not with this hook! Cotton, acrylic, wool blend (didn't have any 100% wool to try), doesn't matter -- this hook glides smoothly through anything, even when I'm pulling through 3 or more loops. Even when I'm crocheting very tightly! And since the head sticks out just a tidge more than the Bates, I have no problems grabbing the yarn (which I occasionally did with those hooks). And the ergonomic grips are soft and really make the hook easy to use for long periods of time. Which is something my oldish hands really appreciate. Really, there's nothing I don't like about these hooks except the fact that they're really expensive for someone on a limited budget like me. I'll be saving up to buy the set, though.
