HX5R 620 Lumen Rechargeable LED Flashlight with Pure Beam® Slide Focus® and CR123 Compatible, Batteries Included

This flashlight is just the right size to keep in the car glove box or carry in your tool box (or a woman's purse). It's fairly bright for its size, can be focused into spot or flood, and has a lower brightness setting for increased battery life. It uses LED and a Li-Ion rechargeable battery. The back end twists open to reveal a USB-C charging jack. This is the best general purpose flashlight I've ever owned. That's why I bought a second one, so I could leave one in the car and the other in the house. Highly recommended!

Perfect little backup flashlight, charge lasts for a long time and recharging is easy.

Ad description clearly states "CR123 compatible." NOT! I bought a six pack of CR123s before the unit arrived. They do not fit. Reading the included Instructions, "Use an AA battery or the supplied rechargeable lithium..." Other than that, the unit is totally solid. Spot and flood via push/pull front, way bright with three easily available settings, and a lifetime warranty. I am keeping it by all means. CR123s already returned. The belt clip is not removable.

These are so good flash lights. Everyone needs these for their vehicles, homes, shops. They really come in handy when needed. Work well. Good quality material.

I am a Maintenance Mechanic at a hospital. I am always working in and around machines, air handlers, boilers, chillers and a ton of other areas, many of which are not well lit. I've had this flashlight for 3 years now. I've dropped it off scaffolding, dropped it into standing water over a foot deep, ran over it once with my 400lbs tool box cart. I use it everyday and can not begin to guess how many times I've recharged it. This flasight has been through it all and functions just as bright and reliably as when it was new. How can I say this? Because I lost it and bought a new one. Later I found it and compared it to the brand new one, , no difference in brightness. I boxed up my new one for later, but this light STILL performs like crazy. The way it has held up and reliably performed, this should cost more, but it's a great price! Comes with a small lanyard, rechargeable lithium ion battery and a USB charging cord (Did not come with wall plug). Rubber button for operation. The button on mine is still in place and still seals out water.

Pros: The Coast HX5R Flashlight is excellent. It’s very well built, has an easy to reach switch, located about 1/3rd the way down from the head; it comes with a replaceable, rechargeable CR123 alkaline batter, or it can be used with a rechargeable battery pack; it has a USB charging port built into the light, (accessible by unscrewing to tail cap); it can be charged with AC, DC, or USB power; it has dual brightness and strobe capability (Press the switch once for high beam, press again for low beam, or double click for strobe); it comes with an optional lanyard and a clip that can be used on a pocket or attached to the brim of a cap; and the beam can be focused or broadened by sliding the head in or out. Cons: I’ve yet to find any. A always, I will update this review if anything changes.

Based on product naming one might expect this Coast HX5R to be just a rechargeable version of the HX5, however be aware this rechargeable model is significantly larger, both in length and circumference. The attached photo shows the HX5R next to a HX5 for comparison. That said this HX5R is an excellent light in its own right, with higher output and more settings than the HX5 to compensate for the larger size. But if you just want a great pocket flashlight with diminutive size then the basic HX5 may suit your needs better.

I dislike the battery charger design in a new flashlight of 2024. Hainvg to completely unscrew the end cap to get to the very large and clunky USB 1.0 Type-A male connector and connect a short USB 1 Type -A cable supplied with this flashlight is crazy in the the 2024 year. A USB 3 Type-C connector should have been designed in the end cap area where you just unscrew the end-cap partially to expose the USB 3 Type-C female connector which then can use the standard USB 3 Type-C chargers that are everywhere in 2024. What a mess. I would not recommend this flashlight in its current battery charging design. The brighness of the LED light is wonderful and the button to control the LED brighness levels work great. COAST gets a Grade A for those two last features done right in 2024.
