This does what it says, works pretty nicely.
I have a can opener i have loved for YEARS and a piece broke, so while it works it doesn't work as well. It isn't made any longer and trust me, I looked everwhere and couldn't find it. I was like pliers that you snap it on the lid and just squeeze it and it wratchets around the can unti l it's open. So since it was unavailable, i looked at other options and found this one from Bartelli. This concept spans a few different brands and prices. What sold me was it's not only a can opener, but it has a bottle opener on one end and it's a little cheaper than the others that don't include the bottle opener, so that sold me. It is decieving and simple. Lay it on the lid, turn clockwise, it tightens on the lid and all you do is crank. It does take a little effort, but it's not too hard. 5-6 cranks and it's done. The claims about no sharp edges is true. It cuts the lid on the side below the lip. I'd not let kids play with the lid but it's still safe enough to accidentally cut your hand. The cool part is the lid can be replaced on the can, and it acts as a decent cover if you don't use the entire can. It will leak and if you turn it over, the lid will fall off, so don't be silly. It's enough to not need tinfoil, it's adequate to keep the stuff fresh for the day or 2 til you use it all. Just understand it just sits there it not air tight and simply turning the can over it will fall off and spill out. It's not a complaint!! It's just a warning. I like it, it's a handy feature. You won't drop the lid as it won't sink into the spaghetti sauce .. :) Tool and fingers stay clean. For $10, how can you go wrong!!?? I paid for this and am happy with it. Worth the price!

Easy to use and it opens cans
It's a can opener and it works. That is all it needs to do

I'll never go back to the two-handled, plier type of opener. Never.
I think opening cans is a pain the neck. Between risks of spilling contents, dropping a cut lid into the can, wondering what's on the surface of those lids, fighting cans that are stubborn, wondering why the magnets don't pick up the lid, dealing with slipping cogs that make opening some cans sloppy work and, my favorite, ending up with a lid that has two areas uncut on opposite sides. And the self-opening lids? They're great but even some of those fail. I got this can opener on a lark. I have become a fan of the simple openers that come on a multi-tool. They just work. Failure rates are low. It's a pain, but it works. But I wanted to give this a try. So glad I did. There's a long list of pros and two TINY cons with this can opener, so here goes, starting with the good: - SUPER easy to start cutting open a lid. I actually had removed a lid before I realized I had even made contact. My daughter tried it and said "This thing is awful! Nothing is happening!" I told her to rotate the wheel backwards a half turn. The opener popped off the can and the lid was easily removed, perfectly cut. She looked at me like did when she got her first cell phone. It's almost deceptively simple how you drop it on the can, line it up (and I mean that in the roughest sense... just make sure the ring is in the right place) and start turning. It bites in and cuts. When resistance all but disappears, rotate a half turn backwards. The lid is off. - It's a good, safe cut. The edges are not sharp. The lid has rounded edges and is perfectly smooth. The top of the can has a cut, but it's not generally sharp in the way a lid is from a traditional opener. - The lid stays "stuck" on the can. In other words, it doesn't usually pop off until you put your fingers on it and lift. It also goes back on, meaning you can literally store contents of a half-used can in the actual can with the actual lid in your fridge. - Pretty durable. The plastic material feels strong. There's metal in the right places and it feels like it will last a while with decent care. It's not bombproof like the old Swing-Away openers, but it's solid for a mostly plastic device. - Great price/performance ratio. I have paid more than $10 for can openers I thought were trash on day 1. Cons: - Turning the knob to work your way around the can is SLIGHTLY more resistant than with a traditional plier style opener. There's just a little more resistance. But the knob is strong, large and comfortable. If I were older and arthritic, I might prefer a traditional opener to this one or even an electric can opener. I would say it's about 20 percent harder than a traditional one, which means nothing to most people with average strength in their hands. - Removing the lid is a little weird. You need to grip the can, hold it firm to the counter or surface and use fingers (even fingernails) to remove the lid. If you're holding this against your body in the air and try it, liquid contents will spill. Cleanup will ensue. Curse words may fly. I bought one for my daughter who has a newborn and I am ordering another to put in my travel kit. Get it. It's great.

This thing means business
This can opener doesn't fool around. It cuts off the lid like a dream compared to the other wimpy can openers on the market. Because it cuts so well, it takes a good deal of horsepower to work it. If you have dexterity/strength/pain issues, you will find that this aggressive cutting through metal is too difficult. You don't get much leverage because the machine is so small. I am finding that it is a little challenging for a woman. I feel like I am going to mess up my wrist again.

Losing function by 4 months continues to degrade
Worked for about 4 months, then started having mild trouble with short cans (e.g. cat food cans) which I discovered a work around (set the can on top of the large big can size of dog food to I dunno get a better angle?) and having trouble with any can with the pop top (aka peel off lid to make a knife lol). I ordered it June 2. Its November 10 and I only can open plain steel cans (no special lid) with reasonably tolerable trouble sometimes, aluminum cat food cans ditto, pop top cans take using this and my previous OXO brand side cut can opener which this one replaced temporarily, and creating a ton of those splinter shards and metal dust on the edge and top of the can. Today it started making a sort of skidding squeaking noise... Going to go find a better can opener, and am a bit upset that this lasted only about 6 months being used maybe once a day on average, when it cost about $17

Rebuy but worth it
Purchased Dec 2024 and rebuying Apr 2026. Great opener but obviously doesnโt last forever.

Safest can opener
This is the best can opener I've ever bought. It can open any shape and size cans. It's extremely safe to use and the cut edges are smooth. Easy to open round, oval, or square cans. Safe for elderly and children to use with proper instruction. Removing the cut lids is a breeze and the jar opener is a welcomed bonus feature.

Worked great for a few months
Worked great for a few months, then completely stripped out and now just another landfill item. Lasted 9 months, and we don't open a large quantity of cans.

Total winner. Don't wash it though

After two months this can opener works perfectly with precision, taking the lid off the can cleanly with no sharp edges and allowing a snug fit back on the can for reuse. It's replacing my Good Cook can opener which finally wore out after 10 years. Hoping this one will do the same.

Not had it long so can't comment on longevity but for now, it works a charm. Simply attach the can opener and turn away from the body until done, then turn toward the body to loosen the can opener from the can to remove the lid. It glides smoothly and you can tell when it's done as it becomes too easy to turn. Both the lid and the can are safe to touch which is lovely. It cuts the outside instead of the inside so there is not need to be fishing out sharp lids anyway. Overall easy and safe can opener suitable for left and right handers which, if it continues to work, is good value.

oh my gosh, I'm going to get one for everyone in the family for Christmas. This little gem works like magic. I still haven't figured out how it does it, but it grips the can by itself, turns effortlessly and cuts while leaving no sharp edges!!!! Amazing. Wish I knew about it sooner!
