Fantastic, rich, detailed
Took me 6 months to read this book but it was worth the time. It's very enjoyable to go from the Egyptian Empire to Post-Modernism. Must have for those interested in art history.

I ws thrilled to find this
This was my college text for Art History many years ago.Although I didn't do that great in the course, I loved the book.Somehow, my first one got misplaced and I always wanted another when I saw this at an unbelievable price.Love the book and the seller did a great job of shipping on time

Comprehensive
An older edition, but still mostly good. The illustrations are good quality. The appendices are pretty informative. I keep this as a reference.

I am very happy with this book. I have an earlier edition from artschool. I really enjoy researching those before me.

Complete set now
Just like I remember. The only reason I did not buy the current edition besides the expense was I have Volume II. Now I own the set. Originally, I had to sell Volume I to buy Volume II. It took no time at all to arrive. Thank you.

Vincent, behind you!
The History Of Art. Simple, short title. Get ready for a ton of bricks! Mr. Janson took an unmeasurable task when he decided to produce this now quite famouse master guidebook. You have to know what you're looking for or you might get lost between the changing centuries. History itself is the true heroine of this book, and so it should be. One cannot expect to learn about a thin line connecting ancient greek architecture to C. R. Macintosh while pushing aside the pillars of the bridge over the great ocean of History! OK, what I'm trying to say here is Janson succeeded at his job because he didn't throw the artifacts in at some chronological order. That would have given us an index, at best. Instead, he took great care to let the natural pattern of the evolution of art to manifest itself through its fruits. A must for art student - a basic. An impressive gift for someone who's hobby is history.
