Fresh produce is a joy: crunchy lettuce, sun-warmed tomatoes, juicy berries - their flavours are immediate - but a winter of those summer flavours preserved, now that's a feeling of satisfaction. If you are going to truly try and attain a little more self-sufficiency (and save some money at the same time), think about what you can store to get you through the leaner months. Alys takes you through all the different ways of preserving - bottling, drying, fermenting, freezing, pickling, using sugar - with delicious recipes that make the most of your produce. This book is a must for anyone who wants to store and preserve their garden bounty. Review: brilliant guide to saving your gluts be they vegtables, fruit or herbs - one of the great things about this book is the various charts in the book giving a handy guides to what to freeze and their blanching times, brine solution plus tips like putting your veg and fruit to soak in a weak acid solution to prevent discolouration before drying. while it doesn't cover everything it certainly covers more than enough different ways to presearve anything you can grow or buy that even if there isn't a recipe in the book for it you can adapt or figure it out yourself. Review: Amazing book - Another amazing book by Alys Fowler. Mine is now chutney and jam stained through constant use - everything has turned out so well and this is my go-to book which I would not be without and which I give as a gift, along with jars of abundance from my garden.

A must read for those with a lot of produce to keep
I love this book and love the writer's anecdotal style. I and my partner are looking forward to trying out the recipes. It would have been nice to have it as a hardback, but knowing the writer's view on waste I can understand it being electronic.

Extremely useful and informative book for those like us who have huge amounts of garden surplus crops that would otherwise end up on the compost heap. Alys really knows her stuff - she not only tells you what to do, but why.
