Mica powders and I use food grade dyes or cosmetic grade. I prefer mica powder.

How many soaps does this kit make?

not many. but you can reuse all the equipment to make your soap from raw ingredients. I prefer not to use the melt and pour soap as it contains palm oil and I prefer to use olive oil and rapeseed oil. I bought a book and found recipes online.
