Tremendous
Another amazing book from my favourite authored. Over the years I have read quite a few of Ms North's books and have never been disappointed. This one was no exception. Absolutely loved it.

A more mature Freya offering
I love Freya’s novels – usual light, full of quirky heroines and with recurring themes of intense female friendship and lots of lovely rude sex, they are nearly always on my summer reading list.In a departure from tradition, “Love Rules” breaks away from her conventional formula of concentrating on a single heroine and instead studies the more complex relationships of four friends – Alice, Thea, Mark and Saul. Alice and Thea are best friends, and following a string of temporary, miserable relationships with unsuitable men, Alice decides that now is the time to get married – to Mark, her best, most supportive, dependable male friend. Mark has always been in love with her and it seems that together their life will be easy – they are independently wealthy, solid in their trust of one another and together, they makes sense. Once the honeymoon period is over, however, Alice begins to thirst for more than what staid, square Mark and their perfect wedding china can offer, which causes issues in her relationship with Thea, who thinks that she’s foolish for risking everything she has.Thea meets Saul unexpectedly and by chance and they fall in love. However, Saul is hiding something – a dark secret activity which he has partaken in for years – this is really the meat of the story and the skilful way Freya navigates us through the difficult emotive twists and turns is mature and unexpected. Freya utilises her usual storytelling tool of questioning her characters from outside of the story to great effect and although her usual effervescent, chatty style remains in place, this is a more grown up offering, still retaining classic Freya humour, warmth and her natural, realistic writing style but with more power, more oomph. And as with all Freya's work, you are made to feel like a friend, invited to the table to sup with the characters and offer advice or insight. The characters are all cozy enough and drawn with such lovely strokes of authenticity that you could pull up a chair in Sauls pub, or join the girls for lunch. Also, for Freya fans, there's an update on Sally from the eponymous novel which you may be interested to read.I would recommend this to fans of Freya’s work unequivocally. It’s a change of pace for her, but it is a triumph.

Thought provoking
Frey North has written what is ostensibly a chick lit book but one with a difference. As with all good chick lit - the characters are engaging, you care about what happens to them, then they start behaving in ways that make the reader want to shout 'Nooooo!' I started becoming really fascinated by the infidelities - and also the loyalties exhibited by some of the characters and found the anguish exhibited very 'true' (having been there myself). I like the way the subject matter is handled with such sensitivity - I also liked the ending, not typical chick lit happy ever after but realistic and - well - brave. I think if anyone is going through that awful discovery of a trusted partner 'straying'they will be able to relate and also derive hope from this book. Highly recommended.

Not a bad read at all!
I have never had the urge to write a review but this book certainly deserves one. The author is an absolute master regarding the twists and turns of her two main characters' love life. Best friends, Alice and Thea, are bosom buddies from infancy. Neither of them can make one decision without the other's blessing and regardless of the outcome, they both have their own morals which has given me an enormous insight concerning infidelity and how I would react to it. I just loved their partners even though I didn't agree with any of at times. Saul, Thea's soulmate , deceived me beyond belief, and Mark, a really nice guy that lacks a little backbone, is Alice's husband and forever friend was in another world while his wife was getting up to...I won't tell you what! A really good read, however, at times I must admit to flipping a few pages. All in all, it's worth reading.

Refreshing and edgy
This is my favourite Freya North book. It is so different from all other chick lit books I have read, it is refreshing and edgy. The twist really makes you think. Very clever book.
