The ability to use the transmitter with the included receiver as well as up to 4 Android/iOS devices, means that a lot of time is saved on set because less time is spent reviewing footage and reshooting. The director usually has the receiver hooked up to a monitor, and then the makeup artist, set designer, choreographer etc. can tune in to the live footage on their smartphone/tablet. This means that the director doesn’t have to look over the DP’s shoulder and can easily monitor the performance and direct the artists at the same time. The rest of the crew monitoring the footage on their phones can easily flag any problems during the performance, such as items accidentally left in the frame, issues with makeup, dance moves etc. Again, saving time and money by avoiding reshoots and fixing things in post-production. Finally, it makes the whole production process look much smoother and makes it more likely to be hired again in the future. I haven’t fully tested the advertised transmission distance as I haven’t had the need to, but I have never had any issues with the signal. I have even used the units in separate rooms and they worked flawlessly. I also found the latency to be a non-issue when pulling focus wirelessly.There is a cheaper version of this product called the Hollyland Mars 400, which only has HDMI and no SDI connection. I went for the SDI version because I wanted to have the flexibility if I ever need it in the future. In my opinion, the fan is quiet enough to use with a shotgun or lav mic setup.This is possibly my best camera accessory purchase of 2019. It’s definitively not as exciting as buying a new camera, lights, gimbal etc. but in my particular case it has produced a massive boost in production value for all the projects that I used it for.
