This is NOT Raid!
It seems that most of the negative reviews are from customers who do not understand what this product is or how it works. Let me be clear: THIS. IS. NOT. RAID! It's actually better! Raid is a chemical substance that is designed to sicken and kill insects almost instantly upon contact. Which is great if you happen to see the bugs and spray them before they scurry away. But what about the other creepy crawlies that might be lurking elsewhere in your home? Bugs, especially ants and roaches, rarely travel alone. So if you see one, chances are there are others that have yet to reveal themselves. And Raid will only get rid of the bugs that you happen to find and spray yourself. Ortho, on the other hand, isn't designed to kill the bugs immediately. Instead, it infects the bugs with a slow-acting poison that might take hours or even days to actually kill them. How is this a good thing? Because it gives the bugs plenty of time to return to the colony and infect the others with the toxin that clings to their bodies. In my opinion this product is better than Raid because it doesn't require you to find the bugs yourself. Just spray around the areas where you have seen the most bug activity (i.e. basements, bathrooms, kitchens, etc.) and voila! The bugs are doomed. Granted, it takes time and patience. Depending on the severity of your infestation, it might take weeks or even months for your home to become completely bug-free. However, you should probably take into consideration that even an overpriced exterminator can't rid you of your bug problem in one quick visit. Most exterminators make frequent visits to your home where they will charge you out the nose just to spray down your living quarters with an almost identical product. Call me crazy, but I'd rather cut out the middle man and save a few Benjamins by doing it myself instead of paying a stranger to come into a house every week to do it for me. I hope this review clarifies any confusion that someone might have and provide future buyers with a better understanding of what they're actually paying for. Update: Something I forgot to mention in my original post is the importance of keeping a clean and dry home. The poison works by attacking the bugs' immune system and making them fatally ill. And just like humans require food and lots of fluids to recover when we're sick, so do bugs. Keeping your home dry and clean as possible will allow the extermination process to work much more efficiently.

Reliable
I’ve tried a lot of bug sprays over the years, and this one honestly stands out. The Ortho Home Defense Max Indoor Insect Barrier works exactly like it says—it starts killing bugs fast and actually keeps them from coming back. I noticed a difference within the first day, especially with ants and spiders that used to show up regularly. One thing I really like is how easy it is to apply. The built-in sprayer makes it simple to get along baseboards, corners, and entry points without making a mess. There’s no strong chemical smell either, which is a huge plus for using it indoors around the family. Another big win is how long it lasts. I don’t feel like I’m constantly reapplying—it gives real peace of mind knowing it keeps protecting for months. Overall, it’s reliable, easy to use, and actually does the job. Definitely a 5-star product in my book.

Works very quickly
This stuff is a miracle. Those pesky ants started taking over my kitchen but l didn’t know their entry point until l saw one crawling from the join behind the over head kitchen cabinet and the wall. I sprayed as directed along the crack and then along the side of the floor cabinet, along the skirting board and behind the stove. Done in 5 minutes, that was two days ago and l haven’t seen ants since! Simply amazing, better yet it has no odor , leaves no stains, even on carpet, and it dried very quickly. I had opened the windows and set up my big box fan which helped. I fully endorse this product.

Doesn't work for the particular apt. Building that I live in
I still have roaches. I live in and apartment building with slobs so go figure. So far all the roach treatments.. Ortho, combat raid etc...dont work .. For the apartment building I live in... So it may not be the sprays fault In as much as it it the apartment buildings...tenants and management fault However Their bed bug spray works.

Does this really keep bugs out of your home?
This bug spray only works if you spray the bug directly otherwise I dont believe it does very much to ward off bugs or to keep them from reappearing. It is is easy to use. The scent was decent not to over powering. You can use it both indoors and outdoors. I do not have time to search for bugs or to spray them directly with a sprayer so for me it was a waste of time. I do not plan on buying this product again. If you buy it know that it effective when sprayed on a bug but does very little to keep them away.

Helped Eradicate Spider Cricket Infestation
My little house sits above an unfished dirt basement where spider crickets were thriving and living their best life. If they'd stayed down there we could have lived all copacetic but unfortunately they began invading my house, coming up through the air vents in the floors. It was like something out of a horror movie. Every night beginning around 9:30 they'd creep up into my bedroom, crawl up the curtains, and often make their way into my bed. Pure nightmare fuel. I'd easily kill 8-10 of them every night in my bedroom alone. I used this Ortho Home Defense Max Indoor Insect Barrier in conjunction with Niban Granular Insect Bait (also purchased here on Amazon). Both have great reviews and I was desperate to eradicate the spider crickets ASAP. I applied the insect barrier liberally in the basement and sprayed around the air vents in my house. I also sprinkled the insect bait in the basement, around the perimeter of my house, and put out paper plates of it inside on the floor near the vents. The insect barrier had no strong scent that I could detect. The sprayer stopped working with about half the container left but I took to just sloshing it on the basement walls. It worked remarkably fast. The second night there were maybe 4 cricket invaders, the third night maybe 2. Then none. Over a month later now and I haven't seen a single spider cricket. I can finally go to bed without having to look over my shoulder (literally, sometimes I'd look over and these little buggers would be chilling right next to me) and I don't have to watch where I'm stepping for fear of squishing one under foot. The peace of mind is priceless. An added bonus is that this (and/or the Niban Granular Insect Bait) is killing other creepy crawlies like centipedes which I detest even more than spider crickets. I could not recommend this product (and Niban Granular Insect Bait) more.

Effective Indoor Insect Barrier With Easy‑to‑Use Wand — Great Results, Slightly Bulky Packaging
Summary: A highly effective indoor insect control product that noticeably reduces pests, comes with excellent packaging, and features a very convenient extended‑reach wand. Works well as part of a DIY pest‑control routine. Details: I decided to cancel my commercial pest‑control subscription and switch to a DIY setup using exterior perimeter products plus this Ortho Home Defense Max Indoor Insect Barrier for indoors. Surprisingly, it worked extremely well. After applying it along baseboards, door frames, and windowsills, I stopped seeing any insect activity — no ants, roaches, spiders, or stray bugs wandering inside. For an over‑the‑counter solution, it performs impressively, and many high‑rated reviews mention similar results. The packaging is sturdy and secure. The container doesn’t leak, and the instructions are clear. The highlight is definitely the Extended Reach Comfort Wand. It makes application so much easier because you don’t have to bend, crouch, or get close to corners and edges. The wand sprays evenly and gives you good coverage without soaking the surface. It’s also compatible with other Ortho products, which is convenient if you prefer sticking with one brand for consistent results. What I appreciate most is how effortless it is to apply a full barrier around the home. Whether used as a preventative treatment or after seeing signs of insects, it works quickly and continues protecting for months on nonporous surfaces. The only improvement I’d suggest is offering a concentrate or powder version. Having to store multiple gallon bottles of liquid can take up space, especially for repeated use throughout the year. A mix‑with‑water concentrate would reduce waste and make long‑term use even more economical. Still, for effectiveness, ease of use, and convenience, this product is an excellent choice for DIY home pest control. What I liked • Very effective — no insect activity after use • Great packaging, no leaks, easy to store • Extended wand makes application easy and ergonomic • Consistent spray pattern for clean barrier lines • Works perfectly with other Ortho products • Long‑lasting protection on nonporous surfaces What could be better • A powder or concentrate version would save storage space • A clearer measuring indicator on the bottle would help track usage
