How to Develop Chi Power (Chinese Arts Series: 450)

Wing Chun 101....
..which is basically what this book is. Many have been mislead by the title (myself included) of this book under the assumption it was about chi kung, which it is not, rather it is an excellent "beginners guide" to Wing Chun basics. Actually, it manages to relate the behavior of internal energy of the body (Ki) through Wing Chun principles and body movements. I realize that William Cheung is a controversial figure in the Wing Chun community, however I believe that he has hit a home run with this book and many of his other early works. Many books on this Chinese martial art often fail to show the actual individual movements and techniques, rather they opt for purely theory or show the forms with out explaining the significance of Wing Chun movements. Here, Cheung has actually taken the time to demonstrate and explain in clear detail all of the basic deflections, jams and strikes in clean, close up photographs as well as illustrate the chi flow in each of these movements. He has also gone through a detailed, step by step walk through of the Sil Lum Tao form. His take on the form is a little different from what I learned (like a %10 difference) but that wasn't an issue for me. Anyone interested in this martial arts should pick this book up despite what you may or may not know about this man, who has taken his fair share of insults and criticisms (unfairly) from other sifu.Recommended\

good coverage of the first form
When compared to books of its time and the context for my studying its a good read. It does leave you wanting to read more, which 15 years later after I bought the book there are more resources (and the net). The pictures are good for those new to the forms and needing a reminding queue.
