Very smooth face, fine fins that actually serve to dissipate heat, fine end cuts with no jagged edges, just the right size. Unless you absolutely need something actively cooled with heat pipes or skived copper: this is your clear winner for intermediate size, high quality, passive aluminum heat sinks. Just be sure to arrange the fins vertically so you get a little convective cooling boost from warm air rising.

I use the heatsinks along with an aluminum 1/8" thick base plate to cool down my computer setup. They really help to lower the equipment temperature and keep them running below 85 degrees F. **Q: I’m looking to cool a couple of thick film resistors that keep overheating. Can I cool more than one (2) with this heat sink?**
A: I would think so. It depends on how much power they are dissipating and how much airflow is on the heatsinc

**Q: Is this anodized?  Also what is the alloy?**
A: It's very shiny which might lead one to believe that it has been clear anodized because it doesn't have that dull grey look of raw aluminum that's been left out for a while.  I have no clue about the alloy.  The packaging says nothing about the finish or the alloy.

**Q: What is the thermal resistance of this heat sink in the 400mm version?**
A: Short answer:  About 0.4 oC/W/16in (still air). For others who purchased a different length, they will need to adjust this number. 

From my review below, a more detailed answer: 

I found a dimensionally-similar (2.581" wide instead of 2.71", 1.340" tall instead of 1.41" tall) heat sink in an online AAvid catalog, model # 83220. The AAvid heatsink specs were 1.01 oC/W/3in (still air), so I'm expecting this heatsink could be 10% better (lower). Note that if you bought a length other than 3", the thermal resistance does not scale linearly with 1/Length, assuming a centrally located thermal point source. For the 15.75" length I'm using, the improvement is only a 50% reduction in thermal resistance. 

Also note that the thermal resistance decreases (improves) with moving air. While the documentation I found for the #83220 did not provide thermal resistance versus air flow, I found another AAvid catalog and heatsink #72070 (dimensions 3.008" wide, 1.02" tall, similar fin aspect ratio, 1.4 oC/W/3in) that provided a thermal performance versus airflow table; for a modest airflow (quiet muffin fan) of ~700 LFM, the thermal resistance drops by about another 70%. 

Net result, for the 15.75 inch length option, operating with 700 LFM forced air flow, is expected to be about (1oC/W/3in * 90% * 50% * 30%) = 0.14oC/W. My heat source is distributed along the 15.75" length, rather than being a point source in the center, so I expect the actual performance to be 2-3x better (lower resistance) than the above calculation.

Very handy heatsinks, nicely made and goes well with my Mac Mini and SSD drives. I use the heatsinks along with an aluminum 1/8" thick base plate to cool down my computer setup.
