Review: Great for encopresis!!! Also helps hair growth! - Long review alert w/positive updates!! My autistic preschooler is almost 4 and was diagnosed with encopresis due to withholding. He’s chronically constipated because he’s scared to poop, so his doctor recommended Miralax. We tried it for awhile, but all it did was make his stool very watery, smelly, and he leaked even more. I joined support groups online, and so many parents and doctors recommended Calm. Seeing as he’s very picky, I went with the unflavored formula. We haven’t done a full clean out using this stuff yet, but I know it’s possible to do it with Calm instead of Miralax. He’s currently getting 3-5x/his weight in milligrams of Calm, along with 1-2 squares of Exlax chocolates in the evenings. He’s finally going normally!!! He told me it’s easier to go and not as scary. He’s had ZERO accidents like he did with a capful of Miralax a night, and no panic attacks when he feels the urge to push. I give it to him in the evening. I haven’t noticed as many huge meltdowns during the day since starting it, which is awesome. He’s also sleeping better and having less nightmares. Review: Great Product For Stress and To Help One "Go" - Great, dependable product for stress, pain and illness reduction. I've been taking the unflavored version by Natural Vitality since they introduced the product. So glad desertcart continues to sell this. While this doesn't help with a fever or illness, it helps me cope with both better. I can only tolerate the plain, unflavored version and I'm probably one of the rare ones who like this plain in hot water but when one is on a limited diet for life, this is a lifesaver.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the benefit of this powder formula as opposed to a less expensive capsule of magnesium citrate?**
A: There is nothing better for constipation.  I believe it depends on why you are taking it.  Pregnant women take this is it helps the flow though proper diet is surely the better choice.

The magnesium oil you spray on and rub in is Magnesium chloride or Elemental Magnesium.  One excellent choice since it is heavily effected by the environment is "Ancient Minerals" with genuine Zechstein from the Zechstein seabed in Europe.  1600-2000 meters down.  That is off the product itself obviously.  So it depends why you need it.  Calm is Magnesium Citrate after it is mixed with water.  Great for constipation though I assume it must have some other use.  

It is my understanding the oil is the route if you need more magnesium in your blood body.

**Q: Can this powder be stirred into any drink, or does it have to be water?  If I get the unflavored version, will it change the flavor of the drink?**
A: You can stir it into a drink and it will be barely noticeable.  BUT-- wait about one minute for it to dissolve completely before drinking.  A lot of people complain about the flavor, but even in plain water it barely has any taste if you let it dissolve completely.  I'm not sure why.

**Q: Is the original Calm unflavored? No citrus?**
A: There is a slight flavor to the unflavored but its not citrus flavor - more like crushed aspirin or something.  Its not bad at all and easily covered up if you don't like it.

**Q: Does this magnesium have vitamin C in it? it has citric acid as one of the ingredients and it tastes really sour.**
A: No vitamin C. The citric acid is present to react with the magnesium to produce magnesium citrate from magnesium carbonate. This reaction will occur faster if you use warm water to dissolve the powder, and more slowly if you use cold water. I recommend using hot water to try to speed the reaction, waiting a while, and then drinking it. I don't know the citric acid to magnesium carbonate ratio, so I am not sure how much of the citric acid will be left once all the magnesium carbonate has been used in the reaction, but your result may be a less sour drink. However, it IS magnesium citrate, so it may get More sour. I am not an expert on sour taste. I think your best bet is to just try hot water & wait a while to see if the taste improves.

Source: enough years in a biochem research lab to figure out that Citric acid + Magnesium carbonate will yield Magnesium Citrate, unlike a good number of the reviewers and commenters, who unfortunately likely used cold water and did not wait for the reaction to finish ... you'll know it's mostly finished when it stops fizzing, as the fizz is carbon dioxide formed during the reaction. That's why the instructions say to wait until it stops fizzing to drink it.

I've struggled with anxiety issues throughout life, and I'm now a 21 year old adult male and I found this product to work like no other.. It's a powder you put in a drink, works best with hot water, and it really helps chill me out. I get the unflavored stuff, which already has a slight citrus tang to it, but there are many flavors as well and I've tried a few. Goes good with stuff like tea, honey and apple cider vinegar, I add chia seeds to it as well sometimes. I'd highly recommend as it is a magnesium supplement that apparently has high absorption and from my experience I can truly FEEL.. Within minutes too! :) I've taken other forms of Magnesium, like Magnesium oxide in pill form, and didn't notice any effects, this however, really works. This is honestly, easily the most noticeably effective supplement I've ever taken.. I bought a 16oz about three months ago, and I've taken it every night, save for less than five nights I might've skipped over the months, and I just restocked because I'm just now running low. Admittedly, I due take a smaller dose than recommended but that just goes to show how great this stuff is.. A half dose or so before bed every night, does wonders. There are many factors in life, but since I started taking this, I don't really have anxiety attacks, I don't really freak out, I just roll with my life, even when it gets hard. It's not that I don't care about stressors, I just don't freak out so much when they come up. It's like this supplement has helped inject reason and realism into me when I reach a struggle, and thus it makes those struggles less of a struggle. Like I mentioned earlier, I only take it once a day, before bed, and it seems to have lasting effects that help with brain function and anxiety levels, it's only the immediate effects that are strong enough to make me chill into a sleep, but overall I'd say it helps me become more of the functional human I'd like to be.
