Sir William Chambers (1723 - 1796) studied architecture in Europe and China before returning to England in 1757 and becoming tutor to the Prince of Wales (the future George III).This mug range uses designs taken from ornaments in The Temple of The Sun, destroyed during a storm in 1916. These can be found in Chambers'' book of drawings published in 1763 entitled ''Plans, elevations, sections and perspective views of the gardens and buildings at Kew in Surrey''.
