Came sharp, Worked great.
I read several reviews where people said their blade was dull and took a lot of work but I went ahead and made the purchase. Received mine In the mail and found that unlike others mine was very sharp. The blade did not need any extra work and it was ready to be used out of the box. Gave it a test run on some American Hornbeam and it worked flawlessly. I believe this is a good deal for what you are paying for and what you are receiving. Update: used this on some very rough reclaimed barn wood to make counter tops out of. Did a really good job scraping off the rough tops of the boards. Knife is good, I would recommend.

Sharp out of the box, holds its edge, ergonomic handle/blade relationship allows comfortable use.
This draw knife was sharp right out of the box. It feels solid (no bending, handle twisting, etc.) and of good quality materials. I’m using it to debark and shape several different types of wood ranging from soft cedar to very hard osage orange. It works well drawing at any speed and with the bevel blade, depth of cut is easy to control. It handles shaving off knots, etc. which take a lot more force than simply shaving bark. It gets the job done. I have no doubts this tool will last and perform well.

Seems like a decent blade...
Was not sharp out of the box. Took a little time with a stone and got a decent edge on it. Not thrilled with the paint on the non-beveled side of the blade. It leaves marks on the wood and fouls the stone when sharpening. Otherwise works pretty well once sharp.

Sturdy, comfortable, and works well
This tool is great. Just be aware it doesn’t come fully sharpened and will need some work getting it razor sharp, however that is normal for most cutting tools’ factory edge. I did use it to shave bark off logs right out of the box, and it worked fine, but a sharper edge will make it easier to use. It’s a very durable and well made tool, and after using it quite a bit, I expect it will last a long time.

It's ok. Not the sharpest and doesn't hold an edge, but works...
I picked this up because I needed a draw knife to remove the bark from 9 cedar logs that range from 8'-11' and 4"-8" in diameter. I want to get the bark off of them so they dry faster and didn't want to spend a bunch of money on a draw knife for this task. I got about 1/2 way through the first log and realized how dull it is, so I used my Ken Onion Work Sharp to put a good edge back on it. Then it started working pretty well, finished that log and 1 1/2 others, then it needed sharpening again. I've only got through 4 cedar logs that are pretty soft and already wish I would have spent a little more on a better draw knife. If you need something inexpensive to clean up a couple logs and don't mind sharpening, this is fine. Anything more than that, spend a little more money.

Came sharp, seems sturdy!
I just got this today. As soon as I unboxed it I grabbed a stick and sat down at the shave horse to test it (without sharpening it first). Turns out it came already sharp! It was easy to get a nice thin cut and it felt good in my hands. I will probably be buying another once I see how this one stands up to lots of use - by teenagers no less!

Pick this up, Very good for the price
Great buy it makes me mad that people here claim it isn't a good product because it look like it came straight out of the mill with no edge to it because all draw knifes come dull you have to sharpen them yourself for one, And for two mine came well packaged and when sharpened it held its edge for a 3-4 projects before filling out which isn't bad because each project takes a lot of use of this knife as I make wood crafted bows. I would definitely recommend As it is good quality for a Japanese knife, Though an authentic American draw knifes have the very best quality, This isn't bad

Good value for the price
I’m a first time draw knife user. At first I used the knife with a bench vice to not impressive results on oak and juniper. Then I made a $25 shaving horse and the difference it makes in the ability of the knife to cut is tremendous. This knife will get occasional use and for that purpose it’s fine. The steel is quite soft compared to more expensive drawknives, but you figure that some compromise had to be made for the price. My bottom line is that if you are going to use a drawknife day in and day out then invest in a higher quality one. If you will use it occasionally then this should be more than fine. Just keep it sharp and make sure that you have a rock solid hold down for the wood and it works great.

Good quality, works well
Worked as expected, arrived good and sharp. By the looks of it keeping it sharp will be an exercise! Will probably buy a curved one next.

Decent, but needs a good sharpening.
Don't expect this to be sharp out of the box. The first thing I did was to remove the paint on the underside, and flatten it. Then I worked on the bevel. There were machine marks on it, but it didn't take a huge amount of work to get the underside and bevel flat and then polished using a strop. If you're buying a drawknife, you will need to know how to get a good edge on it, so I don't see any big problems with it not arriving sharp. Once sharpened, these are perfectly serviceable, and feel pretty good to use.

Great Hobby Tool
I got this for peeling dead spruce and pine trees in our yard. I was making fence posts around our garden and flower beds to keep the deer out. The tool worked great and was easy to re-sharpen after it lost its edge. Very happy
