The noise is easy to get used to and is as loud as ...
I have a 10 x 10 room and this thing is a powerhouse. The noise is easy to get used to and is as loud as any standing fan. Cools the whole room in about 15 minutes and keeps it at temp. I took apart the box it came in and jammed the styrofoam into the window sill gap and then taped the side window covers it comes with over top and it surprsingly insulated the sides. Being in college I didn't care how it looked. I run it at night and as long as you set it to "stay cool" it won't cut off randomly, but if you leave it on the starting setting it will try to keep turning off to save energy so just set that straight and you're good.

It sounds like an old diesel engine
Do not buy this. Sure, it cools a room okay, but it that's your bedroom, you have no chance of getting any sleep anyway. This thing makes a God-awrful racket... not just a little noise, but a racket. It sounds like an old diesel engine. By far the loudest AC unit I've ever owned. Wish I hadn't bought it.

Not happy at all
Not happy at all. Fan on low is too much, this I can take care of. What I can not work around because it is designed tomdo this is when you turn it back on after you turn it off the settings reset to mode and temperature "they" selected. So for instance if I use the fan, turn it off, turn it back on energy efficiency 72degrees comes on. Ok its a pain but to boot, you really can't see where you are at with regard to mode, from across the room. Now you have to got there, which negates why I got one with a remote.Agree with others, not for a bedroom, fan is loud.

Not the best...but not the worst.
It's ok...does a good job, not a great job of cooling down the Master Bedroom. 12x12 shouldn't take too long to cool down, but it took a good hour to bring the temperature of the room from 82 to 75 and then another hour to bring it down to 70.I don't recommend buying this one for larger rooms or to cool down an entire apartment. Won't work.If you want the bedroom cool enough before bed you'll need to start it 1-2 hours before you go to sleep. The timer is a great function and having the remote control is also nice.Definitely not the best AC unit I have purchased but it also is not the worst unit.

Happy with this a/c.
Used all summer, into early October I think. Used in decent sized bedroom (10'x15'). Did its job keeping the room comfortable and cool, and best of all: my electric bill barely went up at all. Much better than a similarly sized/priced Daiwoo I had bought the year before and gave up on.Only complaint is that it needs to sit at an angle (downward out), which is not strange for an a/c, that's how moisture drips off outside and doesn't pool on your windowsill. However, the face and extendable shades don't sit flush in the window to do this. So I either had to have small (but negligible, unaffecting) gaps, or if I wanted it to "look right", have a small pool of water to clean up every couple of days.

New convert!
I've always had fans, but recently there's been heavy construction in front of my house and I have allergies. This unit saved me!!! I haven't used it all the way through the night (thank god for timers!) But I can sleep comfortably again. Well worth it. Sidenote: if you don't have a wooden window frame, brace the back with Styrofoam or a brick and duct tape the accordion wings to your frame.

Nice and compact (fits my very small window, where almost all others will not), and does a great job of keeping the room cool. Love the sleep and thermostat functions.

We have a whirlpool unit in our master bedroom that we have had for 10 years that is super quiet.
This air conditioner is not suitable for a bedroom. It is so loud it is impossible to sleep when it is running. We have a whirlpool unit in our master bedroom that we have had for 10 years that is super quiet.
