desertcart.com: The Essence of T'ai Chi Ch'uan: The Literary Tradition: 9780913028636: Various, Benjamin P. Lo, Martin Inn, Susan Foe, Robert Amacker: Books Review: The greatest way to learn the phylosophy behind the movement - Any serious Tai Chi practitioner will know that Tai Chi is more than just movement. This book presents the original Tai Chi texts translated into english, which allow the reader to think and feel each movement in a new, more intense manner. Each sentence is a lesson in itself. While some are easy to understand, others will not be so clear in the beginning. I am sure that you will read this book more than once, reflecting on the movements and thoughts behind each form. I recommend this books to any Tai Chi practitioner who wishes to understand the roots of the discipline. Review: The more you practice the more it makes sense - Should be required reading for serious students. The more you understand through practice the more you will understand in the book, and you will be able to attach meaning to the moves. This may allow you to use your mind more to control your body.

The Philosophical View
It gives the deeper more philosophical side of Tai Chi. If you enjoy the study of eastern philosophy, the Yi Ching and similar forms of eastern thinking you will enjoy this book. If you are looking for something straight forward, basic and self-explanatory stay far, far, far away.

My tai chi teacher highly recommended this book as the best translation of the tai chi classics. I first learned the short form from the authors- Amacker, Foe and Inn in San Francisco in 1975-76, two years before they first published this book.

Best version for Tai Chi Chuan students
Great readable translations of the Tai Chi Classics, an introduction with the classics no more. And that's the beauty, no modern commentary, just the Tai Chi classics in a great form. If you study Tai Chi Chuan the classics are an important part of you tradition. Highly recommended.
