Is this a 4 pack or just 1? It says 4 pack but once you click the link the description says 1.

It doesn’t say 4 pack anywhere. You are not reading correctly. I have bought from this seller for 2 or more years, the SCOBBYa are the best I have found online so far. $8 for 4 SCOBBYs that would be $2 a piece. That would be insane for any seller!! How much money can they make? $8 for one SCOOBY of their quality is an steal deal!

Will this scoby be sufficient in making a gallon of kombucha?

This scoby comes with 1/4 cup starter tea...It is not enough for making a gallon of kombucha...But when you brew your first kombucha tea , you can use a cup of tea from you just brewed to make a gallon kombucha...Enjoy it...

will the cold bother this being shipped?

It shouldn’t. When scobies are not in use they are usually kept in a refrigerator. Freezing may damage the cell structure but scobies have been known to survive even freezing.

Do you have to use cheese cloth to ferment?

It is said that cheese cloth fabric may be too porous and not as safe as other, more tightly woven fabrics for keeping out mold and fungus spores. Coffee filters are my favorite since they are cheap and disposable.
