Camp Chef Sherpa Camp Table & Organizer, 27x17 in., Brick

I WOULD BUY THIS AGAIN SEPTEMBER 2013 UPDATE: I did a "contact us" at the Camp Chef website about the lack of veratility of the telescoping legs (they only have two levels) and I actually receieved an email that they were going to send my requests to the engineers. We will see. I would stil buy this. It is AWESOME. AUGUST 2013 UPDATE: Took this to Yellowstone National Park. Worked fantastic. That being said, at YNP you have to "put away everything" when not in camp to keep the bears out. My Sherpa made this easy work. That being said, CAMPCHEF IF YOU ARE READING THIS REVIEW please make the telescoping legs longer and with with more than one position. That would allow for even more leveling. Where we camped in YNP there was not a level space to be had. This is permanently loaded in my camp mobile (minivan). UPDATE: Took this on my Boy Scout Outdoor Leadership Training camp out this past weekend - It worked great. The other trainees were quite interested in my chuck box. It did rain, and I moved the Sherpa under a canopy (since it is fabric). I am not sure if this would stand up to the normal use/abuse by scouts, but it can definitely handle anything my family can "throw at it." THE GOOD: My son and I put it together in about 15 minutes. We have used it for multiple nights in our backyard (I like to "dry run" before we go camping). It was awesome. I was even able to fit my coleman stove inside with the four pull outs (Just unzip all the shelves - this does stress the seams). It is a great way to stay organized. I am sure that when I get to camp I will get plenty of questions about this great product. THE BAD: I noticed that there was a small spot near the top where the fabric had pulled away at a seam. However, instead of sending it back (I am an impatient man), I practiced my camping repair skill and hand stitched area with heavy duty thread. then went over it with a red sharpie - I forgot about it until writing this review. Again, this is at seam where the front door attaches to the main cabinet which is a stress point. AUGUST 2013 UPDATE: I am continuing to watch this original seam pull and will stitch as needed (I technically have it overloaded see above. MY PERSONAL MODIFICATIONS: I put "leveling feet into the hollow legs. This added minimal weight and allows me to individually adjust the height of each leg about an inch and a quarter. Great for level cooking at the campsite. Go to the Ace Hardware website and search for " Ace® Plastic Furniture Socket for Casters in Various Sizes" to see the inserts I put in the bottom of the legs. Then go to the store and find metal feet that will "fit" the furniture sockets.

Have acumulated quite a bit of camping "kit" over the years, both tent and trailer camping, this is one of my absolute favorites! Money very well spent. So incredibly useful for organizing my camp kitchen...raise the legs and put it in the back of the suv or in the trailer, then pull it out, put the legs down and use the table for prep space with the bags underneath for convenience. The pockets for labels is so useful, everyone can tell at a glance where to find what they're looking for, saves so much time. Have been using for several years and it still looks and works like new. Equally useful when camping solo and with a group of 11.

My husband and I sleep out nearly every weekend and I needed a way to have everything we need for cooking and cleanup organized and ready to go as soon as we were. This holds everything we need to take and then some. One bin hold our biolite with the coffee pot, two gallons of pellets, stick breaker, camp lighter, fire starters, three pairs of gloves and rolled wash basin. The second holds a nested 3.5 liter, 2 liter pot and 12 inch skillet with two plates and two bowls inside the smaller pot, plus two mug sets and a 1.1 liter boil pot with camp stove inside (all GSI). The third holds all of our coffee and coffee fixings, cocoa, tea and oatmeal in addition to all of our camp spices, hot pads, dish cloths & towels, several S-hooks, spare garbage sacks, and the first-aid kit. We use the insulated bin to hold two small metal dog bowls, four cans of soup, a can of chicken, a large can of beef stew, four cans of vienna sausage, granola bars, fruit snacks, jerky and other quick energy snacks that we resupply after each trip. Each bin has a cut-down index card in the little label sleeve that lists all of the contents so anyone can find what the need quickly. With all four bins full and in place I put our GSI cooking utensils (in their own case) on top of one of the bottom bins and our GSI camp knives (also in their own case) on top of another, slide a half roll of paper towels and a small roll (in it's box) of aluminum foil on the sides, stash our camp hatchet on top of one of the top bins and a coleman burner on top of the other and zip the whole thing up snug. Because it is pretty snug, we leave the tabletop on rather than putting it in it's pouch. This also allows us to put one of our folding side tables between it and the truck bed wall. It is a bit heavy, but I can lift it into and out of the back of the truck by myself and I'm not that strong. The legs are efficient enough and ours slide in and out without too much fuss but I wish they were a tad bit longer, just a little bit sturdier, though we haven't had any problem with them buckling or seeming weak yet, though they do come all the way out if you aren't careful and can be a wee bit troublesome to get back in while holding the whole thing up. I've been considering getting a second one, primarily because I absolutely love the bins and the extra meal prep space would be nice, but at the moment we just don't have the space to load it into the truck. The only thing I wish is that you could buy the bins separately, they are amazing for storage for storage and organization and it would make it so much easier to keep all of our extra dishes ready to go when we take the kids and grandkids with us. All-in-all, despite the less than perfect legs, this is on my top 5 list of great base-camp purchases, along with the GSI dishes, the Wagon Tech rechargeable lights, the Gazelle tent and our biolite. If you've been reluctant about getting one because of complaints about the legs, seams or zippers, don't be. Ours is stuffed to the gills and after several months of regular use it's still holding as strong as it did new and you have to trust me on this, you WILL LOVE how much space it saves and how much more organized you will be!

It took a bit longer to setup than I thought, but the picture instructions were pretty easy to follow, once I figured out what I was looking for. The rip-stop nylon looks tough, and the containers seemed durable. Not sure about the lined blue one - maybe I might do dishes in, but I think it would do better as a thermal container. This definitely has a lot of storage space to fit the random little things, and multiple containers will allow me to organize to boot. The unit itself is an attractive brick color and it has two convenient side handles for loading and carrying. It seems light and strong, but I suspect the finish on the legs will wear out first from inserting and moving around. I like the advice of another reviewer about putting extendable feet in for leveling. I'm 5'9 and even with our stove on top, it still felt a little short to stand over (at least for me). It was on sale at under $80, so what the hell. If it last two seasons, I'll be satisfied and it will buy me time to create or purchase a better camp box. I plan on taking this out for field testing in September, I'll let you guys know how we do. Two adults, two under-fives and 1 dog working on perfecting car camping.

Last year I purchased two giant plastic tubs to store all my camping gear (skillet, stove, lantern, plates, cups, utensils, pots, pans, towels, soap, garbage bags, etc, etc.) and that worked out ok. They were very bulky and could only be used as storage. When I went on a camping trip with my parents I saw they had a neat little "pantry" for all their camping gear that had lots of cools pockets and storage areas for all their stuff. I wanted one. My search lasted almost a year because the pantry they had was no longer in production (I later found out my dad bought it over 15 years ago). I looked at every option I could find and googled every keyword I could think of but nothing really seemed like it would work out very well. I don't remember how I stumbled across this Camp Chef organizer but I'm glad I did. The 4 internal pockets are VERY spacious. I was able to fit a fry pan, 4 plates, a pot and a percolator all in one pocket. Another pocket contains a small tupperware bin, towels, hot pads, a sponge and some soap; another has all my cooking and eating utensils and the last holds everything from a roll of paper towels to lots of garbage and ziplock bags. I was surprised at how much stuff I could fit inside. The blue pouch is waterproof and designed to be used as a wash basin. The construction is very solid and it can be put together in 10-15 mins. The "shelves" on the inside can be unzipped to accommodate larger items such as a camp stove. In my case, I was able to unzip the lower vertical wall and slide my large griddle underneath both pouches. The carry handles are cushioned well and very comfortable. My only small gripe is that even with the legs extended it is a tad short (I'm 5'10"). But I don't really see that being a big deal. I am now down to one plastic bin that holds my stove, lantern and fuel with room to spare. Buy this and you'll wonder how you ever camped without it.

Pros: It is well made and should last a long time. Initial assembly was not particularly difficult (although you do have to pay attention). The top is nice and sturdy and it is made of metal, which is important when using a hot camp stove. It protects the fabric underneath very well. You can get a ton of stuff into it. The little dividers unzip, so you can have two long shelves instead of four little ones, or even no dividers at all if you want. This is key for larger stuff like cutting boards and so on, which you can squeeze in easily around the four bags it comes with. The little bags that fit into it are also heavy nylon and should last a long time. The idea is that just like you have different drawers in your kitchen, you can have different bags of stuff so everything stays organized. If you want to be super-organized, you can even put little labels on the drawers. It is very clever, because one of the biggest hassles in camping is keeping everything organized and accessible. While it is very handy when you are camping, it is even more handy when you come back. Clean everything up, and then pack this thing back up and store all the camp gear for the next time - all ready to go. There is no more digging in boxes every time you go camping to find this or that, most everything you need can go right back into this for storage. It greatly simplifies the process of packing for car camping trips. Downsides: The interior of the Sherpa is a bit smaller than the external frame that goes around the outside. So if you are really pressed for space in your vehicle, this takes up more cargo volume than the same amount of stuff all crammed into just a cardboard box would. You are sacrificing some packing efficiency in the car for the convenience offered by this. It is a worthwhile trade off, unless you already have great trouble fitting all your camping equipment into the car. The zippers on the little cloth bags aren't great, they can be a little tough to work sometimes. That is something they could improve. The only other problem I have with it is the weird little pouch on the back side to store the folded table top. The top itself is of excellent quality and neatly folds into 1/3rds for storage. But the pouch to hold it is an afterthought. I guess the pouch is to protect it during transit, but it actually probably makes it more vulnerable to damage than if you just left the table top installed on the top of it. That way all the little clips that hold the tabletop ] to the frame (which are plastic) aren't exposed in a way that they could be broken off by jostling in the car or something heavy slamming into the side of it. I do take the top off when the thing is in transit, just to keep the table top from getting all scratched up, but I have to pack it carefully into the car so that the little pouch with the table top clips isn't going to get dinged up by anything. I would also definitely not put this up on the roof rack of the car, both because it is going to be fairly heavy when it is full of stuff, and also because I don't know whether it could survive the wind pressure up there at speed. Although it is well made and the fabric seems very good, I don't think it is quite that sturdy. Obviously, this is so big and heavy it is only really good for car camping or tailgating and such. If you want to schlep this deep into the woods, I suppose you could do that, but it wouldn't be much fun to carry it more than a few hundred yards. I really like that it works as a cookstove top, then kitchen sink top for cleanup, then a good, sturdy table for whatever else you need. It is very versatile, particularly if you are at a site where there is no built-in picnic table. Although I have never done this, you could even lower the legs and turn it into a kind of camp coffee table to sit around for drinks or cards or whatever. I also really like how you can put everything away - if it starts to rain and you need to throw everything back into the car or into a tent, it is ONE thing to move all your kitchen stuff at once, and that is incredibly convenient.

For the last two decades, our family has been using the same wooden box as our carrier for camping. We shoved dishware, silverware, kitchen utensils, trash bags, matches, and anything else we needed into this box. It has treated us well over the years, but we have not treated it quite as well. When it was time for a new camp organizer, this was the one chosen. We have only used the organizer once, but it has been incredible. Each organizing bin has its own purpose and you are able to add labels to the front of each one. We have dish and silverware in one, batteries and lanterns in another, kitchen utensils, matches, and trash bags in the third, and there is still one more for anything else that we need. The table top is removable which makes it easier to carry, easier to clean, and a great place to prepare food. The legs can be slid up into the body of the case, which creates a better fit for a small car. The entire case can be closed, so you will not have to worry about anything falling out during transportation. It is surprisingly lightweight, even with all bins filled.

Great item, have used twice for camping and it really is a life saver for organizing and storing camping gear. As others have said, its overall size is large and it takes up a good bit of space if your car camping, but the individual compartments do hold a lot of gear. Would like the legs to be sturdier or made of larger stronger metal. Nothing has happened to them, but I can see they could be damaged or bent. Since most of our camp sites have a camping table provided, I normal just set the entire unit on top of the table and don't use the legs at all. But then I'm tall at 6 foot 2 and like the added height. I like the metal top (a lot) the way it folds for storage is great. Zippers on bottom divider pulled loose and now zipper is in the middle. Haven't tried to re-do, but assume it needs to go back on the track. Had an ant problem at the last camp site, and while I had no food in the unit, the ants were still looking. I could see a real issue if any food was put into this and then trying to get all the ants out afterward. I had a couple walk by and ask me about the unit, where I bought it, how could they get one etc.... So while it was noticed I also worried about leaving out in view, and always put it inside the tent when we were gone.

We went from using two large storage tubs, which always required several minutes of digging to find stuff every time they were opened at the campsite, to this amazing piece of kit, with labeled 'drawers'. No digging required! Also, having the table top is super useful. It is handy to have a place to dry dishes, or prepare food. On top of all that, we really manage to increase the density of stuff we can bring to a campsite, when using this kit. Family Camping Upgrade!

Excelente compra, ya no cargas con diferentes cajas regadas en la camioneta o en la casa para poder acampar a gusto. Uno de los cuatro compartimientos es impermeable o¿por el interior así que funciona muy bien para guardar alimentos. Ya armado como mesa es algo pequeña pero muy versátil para usarla como apoyo al cocinar. Se ha vuelto indispensable para las salidas.

I wish it would zip on bots front and back side, since I use that in my alucab canopy camper that open by the sides but its great anyway

Easy to assemble. All loaded up and ready for our first camping trip in May. Loved that I was able to fit a plastic bin (for dishwashing) into one of the compartments, with the storage bag snuggled inside of it. And not too heavy even with all my kitchen stuff packed up already. Thinking of getting another for our clothes!! Love that they would be stored up off the ground - and kept organized!!
